[player_tooltip player_id="149446" first="Grayson" last="Hanson"]- Platte-Geddes Hanson had some of my favorite film to watch. Not because of how athletic he was, and he wasn’t flashy by any means. The kid just plays his role and does his job correctly every play. He was really violent on his tackles and played with a lot of passion on each play. He loved wreaking havoc on blockers, he attacked them instead of them attacking him, which helped him make a lot of tackles for loss. He tracked the ballcarrier well, and kept a good angle to keep himself in position to make tackles. The one thing I always love to highlight on defensive players, is there ability to wrap up, which he did extremely well and made sure to bring the guy down. Senior Defensive Highlights [player_tooltip player_id="56526" first="Trey" last="Sayler"]- Herreid-Selby [player_tooltip player_id="56526" first="Trey" last="Sayler"] was that wildcard LB who was good in the box and good in pass coverage. He reacts really well and quickly once he gets his read and flows to make plays. He does a great job playing in the flats and defending passes there, but also knowing when to go after a scrambling QB. He loved to hit kids, he got moving downhill after his read, found the ball and drilled a kid every play. No ball for the offense was safe for the offense, he made great plays in the pass, intercepting many passes. He also attacked the football once he had the ballcarrier wrapped up and forced a lot of fumbles. Senior Defensive Highlights [player_tooltip player_id="56490" first="Esgar" last="Rios"]- Grafton Rios is a very violent LB, when in doubt, run something over seemed like his mentality on the field. Whether it was the ballcarrier or a lineman trying to block him, somebody was hitting the ground on the play. He moved extremely well when flowing to the football, quickly and effectively when tracking down the ballcarrier and made plays. He could fight off blockers well, whether that was shedding them or running through them, could even slip through the line on a pass rush. While he did like hitting kids, he wrapped up too and made sure the guy was going down. He did not give up extra yards, he stuck the guy and drove him back on contact. Senior Defensive Highlights [player_tooltip player_id="151218" first="Luke" last="Chiolis"]- Rapid City Stevens Chiolis was another fundamentally sound LB, but also very violent. He read his keys, reacted and flowed to the football and was very explosive when find it. He took the angle, broke down and really drove through the ball on contact. He was able to move quick enough to avoid blockers, but could still shed them quickly if he needed to. He was very disruptive in the passing game as well. He took a good pass drop, checked any crossing receiver to take them off their routes, and sat in his zone ready to make a play. I really like how much ground he could cover in a short amount of time. Senior Season [player_tooltip player_id="56527" first="Trevor" last="Sayler"]- Herreid-Selby [player_tooltip player_id="56527" first="Trevor" last="Sayler"] seemed to be a more run-first LB and filled his gaps quick on each play. He flowed extremely quick and made the tackle on each play. He didn’t need to throw a big hit every play, kept it safe and wrapped up to bring the guy down when he needed to. He seemed to be a QB spy on those running QB’s because any time the QB kept it, Trevor was right there ready to tackle him before he could get going. He also played well in zone coverage for the pass defense, but also did a good job reading the QB and sitting right where he wanted to throw it. Senior Defensive Highlights
