Now we will look into the top junior running backs located in the Houston area who delivered all season. Some names may be familiar and others will be some to familiarize with heading into next season. The players on this list were playmakers and game changers with the ball in their hands and will be big parts in their offensive schemes again for their senior year. Damyrion Phillips - Paetow Phillips stepped up when injuries hit the backfield. When his number was called, the state champions did not miss a beat. Phillips showed tremendous burst through open holes and flashed excellent open field speed where no one was touching him. His acceleration and smooth running separates him from most. Phillips is a dynamic back who is capable of breaking off a 50+ yard run at any moment. Phillips capped off his junior season with 184 carries, 1,358 rushing yards, 21 rushing touchdowns, and a state championship. He will be a focal point for the Panther offense next season. [player_tooltip player_id="249892" first="Jahbari" last="Kuykendall"] - Westside Kuykendall was excellent in space and showed great footwork and elusiveness on the run. He ran effortlessly and proved to be a playmaker with the ball in his hands. Shifty with great twitch, Kuykendall was a threat to score anytime he saw green in front of him. He finished his junior season with 1,603 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns on 176 carries. Santana Scott - Morton Ranch Scott did just about everything for the Maverick offense and proved to be one of their best weapons. He slid to the slot when needed and caused matchup issues for a defense with his quickness and sudden burst. Scott showed he was a strong runner, with his low center of gravity, he did not go down easily and fought for extra yards. He showed very good hands and was a problem for defenders in the open field. For his junior campaign, Scott ran for 1,242 yards and 12 touchdowns on 181 carries, and added 369 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns on 23 receptions. Christian Womack - Tomball Womack has good size to him at the running back position and showed very good ability to slash through lanes. He was difficult to tackle in tight spaces and showed good strength to break through arm tackles. Womack was making great jump cuts and could change speeds on a snap. For the season Womack tallied 1,369 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns on 196 carries, and just got better as the season progressed. Make sure to have him on the list to watch for next season, he is a special talent. [player_tooltip player_id="131823" first="Rashaad" last="Johnson"] - North Shore The player they call "Choo-Choo" now because of his running style will be the next name out of North Shore. Powerful, angry runner with very good speed and acceleration, Johnson can wear a defense out with his running. He's physical and tackles on defenders looking for a challenge. He shows very good vision and finishes off runs with authority. Johnson is a team player who is also willing to clear the path for his teammates and is a back who you do not want to see heading your way. Johnson will be a name you see much of next season so get familiar now. Other Notable Top Backs: [player_tooltip player_id="121974" first="Seth" last="Davis"] - Katy 2,454 Yards Rushing - 28 Rushing TDs [player_tooltip player_id="121973" first="Marquise" last="Collins"] - College Station 346 Carries - 2,826 Yards Rushing - 39 Rushing TDs
