Southern California Top Defensive Performances: Championships

<strong>D’Angelo Davis, Serra, 2023</strong>
Serra shut down a very good Apple Valley offense en route to a Southern Section Division 3 championship. Davis led the Cavaliers’ defense with 10 tackles and three sacks. It was by far the best game of the season for Davis and he got hot at the right time. His only other double-digit tackle game was in the semifinals.

Patrick Henry was playing a dynamic offense in University City in a CIF San Diego Section championship game. University City has a good dual threat quarterback in [player_tooltip player_id="2472" first="Samuel" last="Cooper"] IV and Davis was able to neutralize him. Davis had 10 tackles and 4 sacks in a 49-21 win.

<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="186814" first="Thomas" last="Kensinger"], Venice, 2022</strong>
Venice shut down a Canoga Park offense with perhaps the top running back in the LA City Section. Kensinger was instrumental in stopping that running game. He led Venice with 12 tackles and also had three pass deflections. It was his fourth game with double-digit tackles on the season.

<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="195568" first="Tanner" last="Williams"], Mater Dei, 2024</strong>
Nobody has had their stock rise faster than Williams during the playoffs. He was in the backfield on nearly every play in the Division 1 championship game against Servite. Williams had a game-high seven tackles with four for a loss and two sacks. He and [player_tooltip player_id="25234" first="David" last="Bailey"] are an elite pass rushing duo and one of the best I’ve ever seen at the high school level. Williams will be a major contributor for Mater Dei’s defense the next two years.
