Breakout Players – Break Down of Quarterbacks

Our new Breakout Players series will take a closer look at the athletes who are making an impact, stepping into bigger roles, and showing why they deserve more attention.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>From under-the-radar prospects making their first big splash to established players elevating their game, we will highlight the performances, traits, and moments that have caught our attention. These are players who are making plays on Friday nights and giving us plenty of reasons to keep watching as the season unfolds.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1717719' first='Zealand' last='Danielson'] - 2028 - Yukon</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In the 2028 class, Yukon quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1717719' first='Zealand' last='Danielson'] already holds several Division I offers from programs across different conferences and has quickly become one of the names to know in Oklahoma. Danielson transferred in from another state this offseason, so he may not fit the traditional definition of a breakout quarterback, but he has certainly made a name for himself over the last month. He has been lighting it up to start the season, including a strong performance against a very talented Mustang team, and has been a big reason Yukon is sitting at 4-0. Danielson shows good poise in the pocket, gets the ball out quickly, and throws a nice, catchable football. When the pocket breaks down, he isn't afraid to tuck it and make plays with his legs. I really like how he controls the offense and operates the Yukon attack, and his frame gives him plenty to work with as he continues to develop in their offense.&nbsp; Danielson throws his receivers open and does a good job breaking down the defensive coverage.&nbsp; Danielson is a quarterback to keep an eye out for Yukon as they move into district play.<strong><br></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1249314' first='Liam' last='Kaplan'] - 2028 - Holland Hall</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Another quarterback in the 2028 class to keep an eye on is [player_tooltip player_id='1249314' first='Liam' last='Kaplan'] from Holland Hall. Kaplan is someone we have covered before, primarily through our offseason showcases and 7-on-7 tournaments, but now we are getting to see him compete under the lights. Holland Hall has played a tough non-district schedule but Kaplan appears to be off to a good start and continues to show the traits that have stood out to us in the offseason. Kaplan throws a good deep ball and shows the ability to make plays outside the pocket. He does a nice job stepping up in the pocket and delivering the football downfield, and when he rolls out, he keeps his eyes downfield while looking for his receivers. One thing that really stood out to me watching his film is his ability to throw from multiple arm angles, allowing him to find throwing lanes and get the football to his receivers even when the play doesn't develop perfectly. As he continues to gain experience at the varsity level, Kaplan is a quarterback we will continue to keep an eye on.<strong><br></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1829569' first='Jerett' last='Gibson'] - 2028 - Perkins-Tryon</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Perkins-Tryon signal caller Jerrett Gibson is another athlete we have had the opportunity to see at our summer camp, and he has made an impressive transition to quarterback this season. After a tough start in Week Zero against Washington, Gibson has bounced back with strong performances through the first few weeks, using both his arm and his legs to help lead the Wildcats to wins over rival Cushing and two-time state champion Rejoice Christian. Gibson puts good touch on the football and does a nice job delivering passes to his playmakers. He also isn't afraid to tuck the ball and use his legs when the opportunity is there, giving the offense another dimension. He does a good job moving the pocket with play-action and sprint-outs, and he shows good decision-making when working through those concepts and getting the ball into the hands of his playmakers. His growth at the quarterback position is something we will continue to watch as the season moves forward especially in district play.<strong><br></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1326037' first='Grayson' last='Woodard'] - 2028 - Del City</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>After moving to Del City in the spring, Grayson won the starting quarterback job and has stepped into the role of leading the Eagles' offense. He is a player we have liked dating back to watching him compete at 7-on-7 tournaments during the offseason, and now we are getting to see him take those skills to Friday nights. Grayson does a good job keeping the Del City offense moving and making decisions with the football. Last week against Carl Albert, he finished 7-of-16 passing for 139 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. He also had two touchdown passes dropped in the end zone, one in the first half and another in the second. When the pocket collapses, Grayson isn't afraid to take off and make plays with his legs, but he does a good job keeping his eyes downfield and working through his reads before taking off. As he continues to settle into the starting role, his ability to manage the offense and create plays both inside and outside the pocket will be worth watching.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1831333' first='Baylor' last='Bond'] - 2027 - Dickson</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Class of 2027 quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='1831333' first='Baylor' last='Bond'] has Dickson off to a 3-0 start and has put up some serious numbers through non-district play, making him statistically one of the better quarterbacks in the early part of the season. Now he will get the opportunity to show what he can do as district play begins, with Chandler up first this week followed by Washington next week. He has good pocket presence and moves well within the pocket, doing a nice job keeping his eyes downfield and staying composed. He throws a good deep ball and consistently puts the football in a spot where his receivers can make a play. He does a good job throwing the ball in rhythm and keeping the offense ahead of the chains. He is also comfortable making throws on the move and maintains good ball placement even when he is outside the pocket. With district play here, these next two games should provide a good opportunity to see him continue to build on his strong start.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
