As the playoffs get deeper, and deeper, the MVP’s in each round begin to get even more impressive. This past Friday, as you can see below, plenty of players stepped up even more than they have before. These players did so with even more pressure, and their season’s on the line. Below, regardless of the outcome of the games that these prospects played in, we took some time to give credit to some of the best performances last week. Champ Davis (QB)- Marist Even though Davis and Marist High came out of the game on Friday on the losing end, he put on an MVP caliber performance. In his team’s loss to Benedictine, he threw two TD passes, and he also ran for one as well. Even though this was not enough to outperform the opposing team, it was a positive reflection of the impact that he alone has on his team. His efforts accounted for 18 of his team’s 21 points, and the way he rose to the occasion when his team needed him the most will certainly be something that his program will not forget. [player_tooltip player_id="101837" first="Kyle" last="Efford"], (LB/ RB)- Dacula Efford not only plays on both sides of the ball, but he finds ways to make a big impact when his number is called. Last Friday, not only did he help his team defeat John’s Creek 35-0, but he also ran for three TD’s. On the other side of the ball, Efford stepped up big time as well, only continuing to pour on the positive momentum for his team. He managed to do this by intercepting a pass, and only further stating that his team’s defense was too much for the opposing offense to handle. Damarkus Lundy (RB)- Irwin County: During last Friday’s game, Lundy was an instrumental piece to his team’s win, only further proving that he was an MVP for his team, just as he has consistently been throughout this season. In this game, he ran the ball 21 times, for 101 yards. With this, he also accounted for 18 points for Irwin County, as he reached the end zone 3 times. Alexander Diggs (RB)- Brookwood While Brookwood’s season has unfortunately come to an end due to Walton’s 52 point performance last week, we still think it is appropriate to give Diggs credit where it is most certainly due. In the game, Diggs toted the rock 12 times and accumulated 68 yards. With this, he reached the end zone once when toting the rock, but also managed to keep the opposing defense off balance by catching 5 passes, for 130 yards and two TD’s. Even more impressive, Diggs also returned a kickoff for 78 yards for a TD, proving that he is the definition of the word versatile. Michael Collins (LB)- Langston Hughes Even though Collins’ performance can be seen to be a bit overshadowed by the performance of his teammate [player_tooltip player_id="33872" first="Antonio" last="Martin"], we still respect the damage he was able to do to the opposing offense from the LB position. Last Friday, not only did he record 16 tackles, but he made these tackles in big time moments, that only continued to add to the momentum for his team. As the playoffs continue, look for Collins to continue to be a big time, and consistent piece to his team’s defense. Bryce Bowens (QB)- Carver-Atlanta Even though Bowens is a little less known than some of the other MVP’s on this list, he still manages to step up to the plate for his team every time the pressure is on. This past week, in the third round of the playoffs, Bowens not only threw for three TD’s, but he also ran for two as well. All in all, his efforts accounted for 30 of his teams 46 points, in their big 46-14 win over Burke County. [player_tooltip player_id="33872" first="Antonio" last="Martin"] (RB)- Langston Hughes [player_tooltip player_id="33872" first="Antonio" last="Martin"], who we have been a big fan of for quite some time, stepped up in big ways for his team last Friday. He continued to shine, as his legs led his team to a 48-7 wi over Northside-Warner Robins. Statistically speaking, he ran the ball 19 times, but managed to accumulate 91 yards, and four TD’s. This being said, he alone accounted for 24 of his team’s 48 points that day.
