Washington's Top Performers Week 1

Each week we will highlight Washington's top performers which includes athletes from all classifications. Stats are not always readily available, so please feel free to send over any relevant info talking on individual or team achievements.          [player_tooltip player_id='986701' first='J'Shaun' last='Wilson'] 28' RB O'Dea    Expect Wilson to be a state leader statistically this year after helping his team to the state title again last season. The scat back rushed 9 times for 264 yards and 3 TD's (65,65,22), averaging 25.4 yards per carry, in the 56-28 win over Roosevelt.   [player_tooltip player_id='2381198' first='Antoine' last='Griffin III'] 28' Edge Lake Stevens    What looks to be one of the state's breakout performers on the defensive side of the ball. Griffin and his high-profile teammate [player_tooltip player_id='1188123' first='Ty' last='Tautolo'] were disrupting GK's offense all night with the 6-3 220-pound junior edge making a reported 5 sacks on the evening. It could be a long season for anyone trying to block these two. This likely made the difference with the Vikings pulling out a close one over Graham Kapowsin 31-26.    [player_tooltip player_id='2087218' first='Noah' last='Smith'] 27' QB, [player_tooltip player_id='985352' first='Briytan' last='Bailey'] 28' RB , [player_tooltip player_id='1605386' first='Luke' last='Parker'] 27' ATH, [player_tooltip player_id='1188105' first='J'Isaiah' last='Mitchell'] 27' WR Puyallup    The Puyallup kids looked invincible for most of the year last season, before getting beat in the state semis by a Sumner team they blasted by 30+ earlier in the year. It will be tough for that to happen again. The Vikings beat perennial Idaho power Rocky Mountain HS 57-14, with the QB Smith hitting on 16/21 passes for 306 and 6 TDs. His receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1605386' first='Luke' last='Parker'] caught 6 passes for 162 yards and 4 TD's, with 6-5 Boise St commit [player_tooltip player_id='1188105' first='J'Isaiah' last='Mitchell'] catching 6 balls for 94 yards and 2 touchdowns. Last season's SPSL POY Bailey rushed 19 times for 131 yards and 2 TD's.    [player_tooltip player_id='1892956' first='Tyler' last='Briscoe'] 27' RB, Jayden Hinchcliffe 27' LB,  [player_tooltip player_id='2156019' first='Grady' last='Wall'] 27' WR/DB, [player_tooltip player_id='2105032' first='Ethan' last='Bello'] 27' ATH Tumwater   Briscoe is undersized but quietly continues to kill it. The T-Birds RB rushed for 80 yards and 2 TD's, with reigning POY [player_tooltip player_id='2156019' first='Grady' last='Wall'] back to do his thing on both sides of the football. He finished with 8 tackles, 2 TFLs, and a sack. 5-8 175-pound Jayden Hinchcliffe led everyone with 11 tackles and 2 TFL's in the 41-10 win over a relatively decent Liberty program. The Harvard commit Bello returned a punt 89 yards for a TD as Tumwater will be tough for anyone to beat this year at the 2A level.    [player_tooltip player_id='2065189' first='Jaysen' last='Beasley'] 27' WR Sageview    Sageview went 0-9 last season, so for them to get a 42-29 win over Fife in the season opener was a big deal. Beasley earned 2nd team all-league honors last year, even with the team going winless and started right where he left off making 8 receptions for 170 yards and 4 TD's. All in the first half.    [player_tooltip player_id='2154114' first='Lincoln' last='Heinrich'] 28' QB Walla Walla    As a sophomore, Heinrich broke some school records with the Blue Devils building as a program. In the opener he brought his team back from a 24-0 deficit at half with 2 passing TDs and 199 yards, before falling short 31-20 to Mount Spokane. Fellow junior standout [player_tooltip player_id='2213886' first='Kalama' last='Roberson'] had two touchdowns (7,24).    [player_tooltip player_id='2381183' first='Jacob' last='Korotkov'] 27' RB,  [player_tooltip player_id='2381190' first='Tayton' last='Jackman'] 27' RB/Safety Southridge   Korotkov (141 yards 3 TDs) and Jackman (124 yards) combined to rush for 265 of the teams 371 yards, in a very impressive 29-9 win over a good Cheney program, who went 8-2 last year.    [player_tooltip player_id='1613160' first='Brady' last='Bonnell'] 28' QB Tahoma    The 3* QB opened up the season in impressive fashion, hitting on 89% of his passes 26/29 for 264 yards and 3 TDs, while also rushing for 92 yards and another score, in the team's 41-14 win over a solid Eastlake program.    [player_tooltip player_id='1599662' first='Ean' last='Owens'] 27' ATH/ [player_tooltip player_id='1740298' first='Masijah' last='Carter'] 30' Slot Lakes    Owens is one of the most dangerous return men in the West and when coming out of the slot. He had 2 catches for 91 yards and a TD, with his freshman teammate Carter breaking out and adding 103 more receiving yards and another touchdown, in the 23-17 win over Bethel.    [player_tooltip player_id='2381191' first='Owen' last='Poort'] 27' WR Roosevelt    The baseball standout Poort made a statement against the 2x reigning state champs, catching 10 passes for 285 all-purpose yards (248 receiving, 37 rushing) and 2 TD's (80,46). The 6-1 180-pound athlete will make a serious jump up the rankings board when updated.    [player_tooltip player_id='2381192' first='Calvin' last='Ibale'] 27' QB/ [player_tooltip player_id='1599613' first='Eden' last='Gilbert'] 27' WR Kentwood   Kentwood came up just short in the 28-19 loss to a good Skyline program, but their QB/WR tandem of Ibale and Gilbert showed that they were one of the better duos in the state. Gilbert made the transfer from Hazen over the offseason and finished with 125 receiving yards and 2 TDs. He was Ibale's favorite target, throwing for 290 yards and 3 touchdowns.     [player_tooltip player_id='1574671' first='Chaz' last='Strickland'] 27' QB/ [player_tooltip player_id='2100476' first='Parker' last='Fry'] 27' WR White River   Strickland and Fry continued their tear, beating Bonney Lake 38-7 on Friday. Strickland was 12/21 for 235 yards and 3 TDs with Parker catching 6 of those balls for 136 yards and all 3 of the scores.    [player_tooltip player_id='2134031' first='Dayton' last='Morris'] 29' RB Woodland     Morris racked up 2nd team all league honors as a freshman and came back in a big way during the season opener, rushing for 134 yards and a TD, in the 36-6 win over Kalama. Look for him and his team to be in the mix come playoff time.    [player_tooltip player_id='2381194' first='Ibrahima' last='Diallo'] 27' RB Olympia    I honestly didn't have a clue who this kid was, but the coaches called him a "certified baller" after Olympia's 41-25 win over Capital. Diallo had a record breaking night, carrying the ball 24 times for 204 yards and 4 TDs.
