This is something that began for us at PRZ-Oklahoma in 2021 and it continues to get bigger and better every single year. We're looking forward to diving deep into the top teams across the state in every class. From defending champions, to the top contenders and plenty of dark horses and other teams to know, we'll have complete coverage every single day. There will be multiple previews dropping every single day! In this post, we take a look at the Duncan Demons!

RELATED

- Duncan Video Preview With HC Matt Terry

Duncan Demons

Head Coach: Matt Terry - 4th Season - 11-20 Record At Duncan

2025 RESULTS (6-5 Record - Lost In Class 5A 1st Round)

Aug. 29th - Beat Bridge Creek 30-29
Sept. 5th - Beat Cache 26-23
Sept. 12th - Lost To Guthrie 42-10
Sept. 19th - Beat Shawnee 28-10
Sept. 26th - Lost To Newcastle 44-28
Oct. 3rd - Beat Southeast 44-14
Oct. 10th - Lost To Lawton MacArthur 51-20
Oct. 17th - Lost To Bishop McGuinness 28-10
Oct. 31st - Beat Classen SAS 41-6
Nov. 7th - Beat Midwest City 54-16
1st Round - Lost To Carl Albert 45-17

2025 Offensive Scoring Average: 28 Points Per Game
2025 Defensive Scoring Average: 28 Points Per Game

The Duncan Demons came into the 2025 football season expecting to make a run at the playoffs in a loaded Class 5A. It had been a few years since the Demons were a playoff team and they had a senior class that was determined not to go their entire high school careers without being a playoff team. The season started well in the first four weeks. They won two close games by a total of four points in the first two weeks and then beat Shawnee to start the season 3-1. They dropped three of their next four games in district play to the toughest district opponents on the schedule. Those three teams would go on to be three of the four semifinalists in Class 5A. Duncan regrouped during a week eight bye week and won their final two games, including a decisive 54-16 win over Midwest City in week ten to punch their ticket to the playoffs. They were the four seed and that meant a first round road game against defending champion Carl Albert. A slow start doomed the Demons but they made it somewhat respectable as the season came to an end to the eventual state champions. Now, the Demons turn the page and focus on the 2026 football season. One that features a new district and plenty of new players as they try to replace that senior group that achieved their goal of bringing Duncan back to the playoffs.

2026 OUTLOOK

We're a little over a week away from the 2026 football season kicking off and the Demons come into this year looking to build off last year's run to the playoffs. They have two major hurdles to overcome this fall but they have the potential to do that. First off, like we mentioned, the Demons are on the move and will face a new slate of district opponents. The next one is finding new playmakers on both sides of the ball to step up in a major way this season. Offensively, the Demons bring back five starters and the biggest question mark will be at the quarterback position as they have to replace a major producer from the last few seasons. There are some solid returning starters but they'll be mixed with some unproven players on that side of the ball. The story is similar on the defensive side of the ball as the Demons bring back only five starters on that side of the ball. They have to replace a game-wrecker on the defensive line but they do have some guys that return that could step into bigger roles this season. On paper, Duncan looks like a team that will go through some growing pains early on but the schedule sets up for them to weather the storm and play some of their best football down the stretch. The new district only features six opponents so there is no room for growing pains once district play starts. The Demons will have to go out and earn it if they make it back to the playoffs for a second straight year.

KEY LOSSES TO GRADUATION

Sawyer Rice - Quarterback (2025 All State Honorable Mention)
Tavion Holland - Running Back (2025 All State Honorable Mention)
Zion Butler - Defensive Lineman (2025 All State Honorable Mention)

PLAYERS TO WATCH

2028 quarterback and defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='1839116' first='Caleb' last='Davis'] is stepping into some big shoes as the 2026 season gets ready to kick off. The Demons have had the same quarterback for a few years and now Davis enters that position. But when you look at this Duncan roster, it's hard not to imagine that Davis is one of the better athletes on this team and should fit in really well at this spot. He's a versatile athlete that will also turn around and be a key contributor to the defense in the secondary. Davis is a two-sport athlete that is going to be fun to follow throughout this season.

Duncan brings back two of the five starters on the offensive line so they are going to lean heavily on a guy like 2028 [player_tooltip player_id='1831176' first='Cord' last='Byerly'] who returns this season. Duncan had to throw Byerly into the fire during his freshman season as the starting center and Byerly excelled in the position. He comes into this season as a three-year starter for the Demons and will be one of the more experienced players on either side of the ball for Duncan this season. So when the Demons are breaking in new starters up front, look for Byerly to be the leader of this group.

2027 wide receiver and defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='1837403' first='Eric' last='Hernandez'] is one player that comes into this season for Duncan with a major chip on his shoulder. Hernandez broke his ankle last summer and had to miss his junior season. He was expecting to be one of Duncan's top playmakers on offense at the receiver position. So there is no doubt that Hernandez comes into this season looking to make up for lost time. And the Demons need playmakers to step up on offense. We'd be shocked if Hernandez isn't one of those guys. He'll also start for Duncan in the secondary.

Duncan comes into this season feeling confident with the two-headed monster that they will have at the running back position. 2027 running back and defensive back [player_tooltip player_id='1828353' first='Ty' last='Lane'] is one of those names that we'll need to get used to watching this season. As Davis gets more comfortable at the quarterback position, look for Lane to have a few breakout moments from the running back position this season. He'll be sharing carries in the backfield with a sophomore but we think that Lane could end up being one of Duncan's better and productive two-way players this fall.

MORE NAMES TO KNOW

[player_tooltip player_id='1831174' first='Blayden' last='Harper'] - 2027 Wide Receiver/Linebacker
CJ Warner - 2028 Wide Receiver/Defensive Back
[player_tooltip player_id='1035118' first='Cord' last='Brown'] - 2027 Running Back/Defensive Lineman
[player_tooltip player_id='1831170' first='Crew' last='Budowsky'] - 2027 Tight End/Linebacker
[player_tooltip player_id='1829140' first='Kaden' last='Morris'] - 2028 Offensive Lineman
[player_tooltip player_id='1832839' first='Karsen' last='Key'] - 2027 Offensive/Defensive Lineman
[player_tooltip player_id='1833905' first='Khi' last='Haynes'] - 2029 Running Back/Linebacker
[player_tooltip player_id='1829144' first='Sam' last='Lipscomb'] - 2028 Wide Receiver/Linebacker

2026 SCHEDULE

Aug. 28th - Altus
- The 2026 season kicks off with a home game against traditional rival Altus in week zero. The Bulldogs are back on the schedule after not playing the last two seasons. These two played every year from 1992-2023 but did not play the last two years. Altus won that last meeting in 2023 while Duncan won five straight before that.
Sept. 4th - AT Cache
- The Demons go on the road to face Cache in week one. This will be the third straight season these two teams have squared off in non-district play. And while the Demons have a 2-0 record in those last two meetings, they've had to earn it. They beat Cache 20-14 in 2024 followed by a closer 26-23 victory over Cache last season.
Sept. 11th - Lawton Eisenhower
- Duncan returns home to host Lawton Eisenhower in week two and this is a new opponent on the non-district schedule. The Demons beat Lawton Eisenhower in the first round of the 2020 playoffs. Prior to that 2020 meeting, these two teams hadn't played in over 40 years. That changes when they square off in week two this season.
Sept. 18th - AT Weatherford
- The non-district schedule wraps up with a week four game against Weatherford. This is another new opponent on the schedule for the Demons. Weatherford got added this offseason and it will be the first time these two have met on the gridiron since 2012. They were non-district foes off and on for the first 15 years of this century but haven't played since 2012.
Sept. 25th - Noble
- The Demons will open up district play at home against Noble in week four. The Bears are back on the schedule after these two were in different districts the last two seasons. They were in the same district from 2018-2023 and the series was completely even. Each team alternated wins and there were some very close games during that stretch.
Oct. 2nd - AT Durant
- Duncan hits the road to face Durant in week five and the Lions are a new district opponent for all of the west side schools after being considered an east side team for several years. These two teams haven't met in 15 years. They were district opponents from 2010-2011 and the Demons owned the series, winning both by 27 points or more.
Oct. 15th - Carl Albert
- After a bye week, the Demons return to the field in week seven to host reigning 5A champion Carl Albert. The Titans beat Duncan in the first round of the playoffs last year and this will be the first regular season meeting between these two since 2015. Carl Albert is the 5A standard right now so this is the ultimate measuring stick game.
Oct. 23rd - AT Midwest City
- After the showdown with Carl Albert, Duncan will head up to Midwest City to face the Bombers in week eight. These two teams were district opponents the last four seasons and the Demons finally turned things around in this series last year. After losing three straight meetings to Midwest City, Duncan broke through and beat the Bombers 54-16 last year.
Oct. 30th - Lawton
- The Demons host Lawton in their final home game of the regular season. This will be a massive district game that could end up being a “win and you're in” game for playoff seeding. These two teams were non-district opponents from 2020-2023 and the Wolverines swept that series, winning all four meetings during that stretch.
Nov. 6th - AT Guthrie
- Duncan ends the 2026 regular season with a road trip to Guthrie in week ten. This game goes from being a non-district game to a district affair for the next two seasons. These two have met in non-district play in each of the last six years. This series has been dominated by Guthrie. The Demons will be looking for their first win over the Blue Jays since 2015.

NOTABLE

We've done over 100 of these team previews and this is the first preview where we've found a team that had this very unique stat last season. The Duncan Demons made it back to the playoffs and played eleven games in 2025. Offensively, they scored 308 points. Defensively, they gave up 308 points. Their point differential last season was dead even. We haven't seen that in a long time. We've seen a handful of teams that end up having a point differential of less than ten over the course of ten games. But we can't remember the last time that we saw a team score and give up the exact same number of points. And when you go back and look at Duncan's games last season, it's not like every game was one that went down to the wire, which makes this stat even more mind-boggling. Only two games, the first two of the year, were decided by less than 16 points last season. Now, as we get closer to the start of the 2026 season, there's no doubt that Duncan will want to end up in the positive for point differential in 2026.

LAST FIVE SEASONS

2025 - 6-5 - Lost In Class 5A 1st Round
2024 - 4-6 - Missed Playoffs
2023 - 1-9 - Missed Playoffs
2022 - 3-7 - Missed Playoffs
2021 - 4-6 - Missed Playoffs

CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY

4 State Championships

1984 - Beat Bishop Kelley 10-7
1983 - Beat Broken Bow 21-0
1978 - Beat Jenks 32-13
1977 - Beat Stillwater 19-6
