Today’s entry focuses on the position on the field most often made to play on an island – corners. A solid corner has to be able to play the pass, play the run, and also have a short memory. These guys don’t get beat much, and when they do, they can bounce back.
Edmond Ocansey Jr Champlin Park
Ocansey Jr has excellent straight-line speed. He can close on almost anyone. Because of his speed, when he does get beat, he is usually able to recover. Ocansey Jr plays the ball well and is a physical tackler who can play safety as well. A good overall athlete, he has excellent leaping ability. Currently, the junior has one DII offer.
Adam Kiatamba Adam Kiatamba DB Anoka | 2021 State MN Anoka
Kiatamba breaks on the ball well. At 5’9″, he makes up for a lack of size with his anticipation. He comes off his man well to get into the play when in zone coverage and when transitioning to support the run. He is an aggressive tackler. The scheme he plays in, Kiatamba often gives the receiver a cushion but has the closing speed to make up the gap.
Deezwin Cooper Deezwin Cooper ATH Totino-Grace | 2021 State MN Totino-Grace
Cooper breaks quickly on the ball but is also physical at the line of scrimmage. He adjusts quickly to the ball in the air. The junior is comfortable playing off the receiver and in press coverage. At 5’10″185-pounds, Cooper has the speed to stay with receivers on the deep ball and to run down plays from behind. He currently holds one DII offer.
Isaiah Walters Isaiah Walters WR Woodbury | 2021 State MN Woodbury
Walters gets his body into great position on deep balls. At 5’11″ 170-pounds, he has the speed to keep up with outside receivers. A solid tackler, the junior can help in the kicking game as an effective kick returner. Back at corner, Walters is comfortable in press coverage as well as giving a cushion.
Caleb Dose Caleb Dose DB Sibley East | 2021 State MN Sibley East
Dose uses excellent body position. When the ball is in the air, he has good ball skills. Dose can stay in the pocket of the receiver in man to man situations. The junior locates the ball quickly out of his breaks. Dose currently has DII and DIII interest.
