The Semi Finals are upon us! Let’s take a look at four players that will need to have big performances this Friday.
Southeast Polk - [player_tooltip player_id="23947" first="Jaxon" last="Dailey"] (Class of 2022) QB Hudl
The three year varsity starter and Arkansas State commit [player_tooltip player_id="23947" first="Jaxon" last="Dailey"] will have all the eyes on him and how he performs against a Iowa City High team that has forced 2.5 turnovers per game during the playoffs. Dailey has been great this season with 1,661 passing yards, 19 passing touchdowns, and a 59.7 completion percentage. But Dailey has forced a good amount of throws into heavy coverage this season which can cause concern when facing a team that can force turnovers like Iowa City High. If Dailey can perform like he did last year in the semi finals (204 Pass Yards and 2 Touchdowns) then the Rams have a really good chance to return to the championship game in back to back years.
Valley - [player_tooltip player_id="148360" first="Mason" last="Morrow"] (Class of 2022) QB Hudl
The Valley Tigers have a major game against the Ankeny Hawks this Friday and [player_tooltip player_id="148360" first="Mason" last="Morrow"] is going to need to play at a very high level for them to advance to the championship game. Morrow was phenomenal in the previous match up against the Hawks in which he threw for 247 passing yards and had four touchdowns along with some insane highlights (Click the link to see one of the highlights). Morrow will have to perform at an extremely high level for the Tigers to get the win on Friday.
Ankeny - The Entire Defensive Unit
Ankeny quite frankly got embarrassed on the defensive side of the ball against Valley with multiple blown coverages and gaping holes in the run game. That being said, this Ankeny Hawk defense has been playing out of their mind after this loss putting up some mind boggling stats. The Hawks have only allowed 4.8 points per game and average 11.7 tackles for loss per game in their past five Fridays. The Ankeny Hawks will need seniors like [player_tooltip player_id="23955" first="Ryan" last="Crandall"], Sean Gavin, Nick Eaton, [player_tooltip player_id="100844" first="Jackson" last="Penningroth"], Tamden Webb Tate, and [player_tooltip player_id="23989" first="Will" last="Cornwell"] to step up and make play after play.
Iowa City High - [player_tooltip player_id="152884" first="Ben" last="Kueter"] (Class of 2023) LB Hudl
The Cinderella story of the season has made it to the Dome. Last year Iowa City High finished 2-4 with a first round exit in the playoffs. Now they are in the dome with a 9-1 record. This Cinderella story has been led by Iowa football and wrestling commit [player_tooltip player_id="152884" first="Ben" last="Kueter"]. Kueter has averaged 9.4 tackles and 3.9 tackles for loss per game which is far and away the best per game numbers out of any defensive player in the state. Kueter is not only an impact on defense but he makes plays on offense as well, Kueter has nine touchdowns on the offensive side of the ball this season. Kueter will have to be a dominant force to take down the juggernaut that is Southeast Polk. Southeast Polk runs the ball 62% of the time so Kueter will have his hands full on the line.
