Seven 2027 River Parishes prospects to watch this season

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Louisiana high schools are fast approaching fall football camp and, in just over a month, the 2026 season.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A strong wave of talent coming through the state means plenty of notable players to watch — as usual for the typically rich recruiting ground — including many for the final go-round in their respective high school seasons.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Heading into August, Prep Redzone Louisiana will take a look around the state region-by-region at some of the most promising student-athletes to take a Friday night to see while they're close before heading off to college opportunities around the country.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Here are half a dozen seniors from the River Parishes to watch this fall.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='934578' first='Jye' last='Blain'] — 5-10, 160 DB — St. James</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='871856' first='Kendrick' last='Joseph Jr.'] — 6-1, 185 ATH/DB — St. James</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Blain and Joseph were among the early prospects spotlighted in PRZLA's first watch lists and rankings for the 2027 class as two of the notable pieces of the promising wave of talent coming through Beautiful Downtown Vacherie. Both have excelled throughout their career, including their roles in a pair of state runner-up teams, and are now both Division-I FBS commits to Louisiana Tech and Old Dominion, respectively, and key leaders on a team with realistic aspirations of getting back to Caesars Superdome and completing the mission.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1402701' first='Malachi' last='Dabney'] — 5-9, 185 RB — Destrehan</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>One of the state's most prolific rushers the past two seasons is slated to be a workhorse and focal point for his Wildcats' offense for one more final ride. Dabney's performance will loom as large as ever as the team works in a new quarterback for the first time in his career, but he's long proven himself battle-tested, consistent, durable and generally up for challenge — seemingly getting stronger as games progress and having some of his biggest performances in the highest-profile matchups. Montague and Ash have both figured prominently on PRZLA lists throughout their prep careers, going back to freshman year. And while their availability and production has been hamstrung by a variety of issues thus far, they should be as hungry as anyone this fall and beyond to show what they're capable of and disprove any doubters. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='723530' first='Ashton' last='Stark'] — 5-10, 160 WR/DB — Lutcher </strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Bulldogs' star, a dynamic and versatile playmaker throughout his career, is the highest-ranked prospect in the region and the highest-profile prospect with a recent Kansas State commitment. Stark is one of the smoothest, speediest athletes in the state — a wide receiver who is dangerous to every level of the field with his ability to stretch defenses vertically and track the ball deep as well as his elusiveness after the catch, a game-changing threat in the return game and an instinctive defender and willing tackler to go with his rare athletic profile. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1595354' first='James' last='Tyson'] — 6-0, 180 DB — St. Charles Catholic</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>One of the stock-rising stars of the offseason, Tyson began breaking into the lineup this past fall and really opened eyes with his 100-meter dashes in the 10.6- and 10.7-second range throughout track season in the spring. He picked up a few college offers before committing to nearby Tulane this summer and is one of the top athletes on a reigning champion with definite back-to-back potential. The Comets' schedule includes some intriguing matchups just a short drive out of the city for Green Wave fans, but Tyson and company also hope to finish that schedule just down Claiborne in the Superdome.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
