Gardner Webb Mega Camp Day 2 Standouts

Gardner-Webb hosted its annual Mega Camp this weekend, one of the premier recruiting events in Western North Carolina. In his first offseason as head coach, Kris McCullough helped bring nearly 2,000 prospects to Boiling Springs over two days, with college coaches from every level on hand to evaluate talent. The camp featured six sessions across the weekend and has quickly become one of the largest exposure camps in the Carolinas.    Deion Suber was one of the most difficult receivers to defend throughout Day 1 of the Gardner-Webb Mega Camp. The rising senior consistently created separation with a smooth release package and sudden, cat-quick movements that resembled a skilled basketball player. What makes Suber even more impressive is how fluid and explosive he is despite his size. Defensive backs struggled to stay in phase with him as he effortlessly got in and out of breaks and made plays at every level of the field. Suber's combination of size, athleticism, and route-running ability made him one of the top overall pass-catchers in attendance and a prospect college coaches should continue to monitor closely.     Jace Staton turned in one of the most impressive defensive back performances of Day 2 at the Gardner-Webb Mega Camp. The physical defensive back welcomed every challenge and took more reps than any other DB in attendance. Whether matched up against tight ends, bigger receivers, or smaller speedsters, Staton consistently held his own and competed at a high level.   His versatility was on full display as he showed the ability to play through contact, mirror routes, and stay disciplined in coverage against a variety of body types and skill sets. What stood out most was his competitiveness—he never shied away from another rep and seemed to get better as the day went on. Staton proved he can line up against anyone and be successful, making a strong statement as one of the top defensive backs at the camp.     Torrey Scott made the trip all the way from Florida and wasted no time making his presence felt at the Gardner-Webb Mega Camp. The physical defensive back was a constant nuisance for opposing receivers throughout the day, competing on every rep and refusing to give up easy completions.   Scott played with an edge, disrupting routes at the line of scrimmage and staying attached to receivers throughout their stems. His toughness and competitive nature stood out as he consistently challenged pass catchers and made them work for every opportunity. No matter who lined up across from him, Scott brought a physical brand of football that made him one of the more memorable defensive backs in attendance.     Kamauri Jones was one of the top quarterback performers on Day 2 of the Gardner-Webb Mega Camp. The rising senior showcased polished footwork, excellent mechanics, and a live arm that immediately caught the attention of coaches in attendance.   Whether working from the pocket or throwing on the move, Jones looked comfortable and in control. He demonstrated the ability to drive the football into tight windows when necessary while also showing the touch to layer passes over defenders and lead receivers into space. His arm talent, combined with his consistent footwork and accuracy, allowed him to make every throw on the field.   Jones put together a complete performance and proved he has the tools to be a high-level playmaker at the next level. With his combination of arm strength, touch, and poise, he firmly established himself as one of the premier quarterbacks in attendance on Day 2.     Ty'Quarius Shannon was one of the biggest matchup problems at the Gardner-Webb Mega Camp. At 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds, Shannon possesses a rare blend of size, speed, and athleticism that few defensive backs could match. After posting a 4.4-second 40-yard dash, he backed it up during one-on-one competition, consistently creating separation and making plays down the field.   His leaping ability was equally impressive, allowing him to win contested catches and play above the rim. While Shannon is still developing certain aspects of the receiver position, his raw talent is undeniable. The exciting part is that he's only scratching the surface of his potential. As he continues to refine his route running and overall understanding of the position, Shannon has the tools to become an even more dominant playmaker at the next level.   Few prospects at the camp offered the combination of size, speed, and upside that Shannon brought to the field.     Kelly Bridges was the lone Class of 2029 prospect I covered at the Gardner-Webb Mega Camp, and he certainly didn't look out of place competing against older athletes. Standing 6-foot-4 and over 215 pounds, Bridges was one of the biggest prospects in the tight end group regardless of classification and consistently made his presence felt throughout the camp.   The young tight end possesses an impressive frame for his age and showed flashes of why he is a name to remember in the coming years. His size immediately creates matchup issues, and he displayed the ability to compete with older, more physically mature athletes. Bridges moved well for a player of his stature and showed the natural tools that college coaches covet at the position.   With several years of high school football still ahead of him, Bridges already has the physical foundation to develop into one of the top tight end prospects in his class. The future is extremely bright for the talented 2029 standout.     Tymere Diaz-Baker turned in one of the strongest defensive back performances of Day 2 at the Gardner-Webb Mega Camp. The rising senior consistently showcased outstanding technique, poise, and competitiveness throughout one-on-one competition.   What stood out most was his ability to remain calm under pressure. Even when receivers appeared to gain a step, Diaz-Baker never panicked, trusting his technique and playing through the hands of receivers to disrupt passes at the catch point. His understanding of leverage and timing allowed him to stay in phase and make plays on the football throughout the day.   Diaz-Baker also brought a physical presence to the field, competing on every rep and challenging receivers from start to finish. His effort, discipline, and technical refinement made him one of the top defensive backs in attendance on Day 2 and a prospect that continues to trend upward heading into his senior season. The rising senior consistently displayed excellent footwork throughout the workout, allowing him to stay balanced and deliver the football with accuracy to all levels of the field.   Kline's ball placement was outstanding, as nearly every throw arrived on target and gave receivers the best opportunity to make a play. His passes were consistently catchable, showing both touch and timing in his delivery. What separated him from many of the other quarterbacks in attendance was his ability to throw the deep ball. Kline repeatedly dropped passes into receivers' hands downfield with impressive accuracy and trajectory, showcasing one of the best vertical passing games at the camp.   With his mechanics, footwork, and ability to stretch the field, Kline established himself as one of the top quarterback performers of the event and a prospect worthy of continued attention heading into his senior season. The rising senior proved to be a true route-running technician, creating separation with precise footwork, sharp breaks, and a strong understanding of leverage.   Blanchard's hands were among the best in attendance, as he consistently secured the football and made difficult catches look routine. He showed the ability to win at every level of the field, combining reliable hands with polished route-running skills that kept defensive backs on their heels throughout the day.   Whether during drills or live competition, Blanchard was consistently making plays and establishing himself as one of the top receivers at the camp. His combination of route-running ability, sure hands, and overall polish made him one of the standout pass catchers of the event.     Garrison Lubin was one of the more competitive prospects at the Gardner-Webb Mega Camp. The rising senior played with great intensity throughout the day and won the majority of his one-on-one reps. His speed consistently showed up, allowing him to create separation and make plays. Lubin's effort and athleticism helped him stand out among a talented group of prospects.
