UW-Stout Prospect Camp: Nate’s Defensive Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>MENOMONIE--</strong> We spent our Sunday afternoon back at our old stomping grounds, as I took my scouting talents back to my alma mater at UW-Stout in Menomonie for my first prospect camp of the year! There was also a lot of nostalgia being back on campus but we had our eyes of the prize from a player evaluation standpoint as start this evening with with nine of my favorite prospects on the defensive side of the ball. He had some wins in 1v1s that intrigued me as what I saw from a skillset perspective, was his tight angles he took down the ball carrier as he didn't need much space to operate to get to the point of attack. Isaiah produced one of the more agile get offs I saw out of this group and whenever he had the edge, he never got flustered by the OL he went up against and what else impressed me was his coachability after reps as it was evident he wanted coaches feedback on how he could improve. He showed off quickly that he's a prospect that was very coachable and I felt he took the coaching and put it in play quickly as you could see the growth Steven made from camp start to camp finish. He showed that he has barreling strength and developing leverage that I feel has good upside to grow into summer camp season. He showed off a great first step that fires out quickly for his size and is surely an athlete that utilzes the full extent of his high motor on every rep he gets. Brody was also proficent with his pad-level in the bulk of reps I got to watch and had some of the best get off hands I saw in the DL group all day. This young man was all over my notebook throughout the day, and one of my favorite skillsets James had at his disposal was how he motivated his teammates in the DL group when he was waiting for his next rep as that's something that always sticks out ot me at camps. The 6'2 260 pounder was darn near impossible to get off his spot as most offensive linemen had their troubles against James in their live reps. He was well-balanced when it came to his hands, as he not only had great hand placement in the reps I watched but man, the strength this kid has at his disposal with those hands were superb in the reps I watched. He was one of a couple linebackers named Grant that were new names to my radar as Weber was surely in my top-tier in the linebacker group in Menomonie. He's a linebacker that showed off well-versed instincts as one of the best linebackers in the group that I saw in pass coverage reps as Grant has great vision and footwork that seemed too trend really well with his timing when the ball was in the middle of the field. I felt Davin was one of the best I saw from the linebacker group from an all-around evaluation from his athleticism to what he showed off later in Indy and 1v1s. I was impressed with the vision he showed off in the high chunk of reps I watched as you can tell very quickly that he proceeds down to the ball with solid instincts when getting downhill. Also was one of the best linebackers from a footwork perspective. I have tracked plenty of Rogers Royals athletes over the years living nearby, but Davin is a new one that surely should get on our 2027 board in Minnesota. I would certainly put Calvin with my top-tier as far as the defensive back group I watched in Menomonie on Sunday,. I thought he showed off great range for his size profile and was surely one that was getting plenty of reps and attention from the Blue Devils staff from what I could gauge. This young man to my count logged 5 interceptions during 1v1s and on a good chunk of them, came out of nowhere to disrupt the passing lanes. His showed off as a safety that was an excellent ball-tracker as the timing he exploded to the ball with was on point in just about every rep I got to watch out of Miles on Sunday in Menomonie.
