Film Review - May 22, 2026

Welcome to this week's Film Room Review, where we take a deeper look at some standout players from across Oklahoma. Anyone can make a highlight play, but what shows up consistently snap after snap is what really matters. Footwork, leverage, ball skills, eye discipline, effort—those are the traits we're focusing on in this breakdown.   The players featured this week put together strong performances and showed qualities that translate. Whether it's consistency, toughness, or the ability to execute under pressure, each of these athletes gave us something worth studying and evaluating moving forward.     Let's get into the film. Carter Vaughn - 2028 QB - Collinsville   Collinsville 2028 quarterback Carter Vaughn had a great first season taking over the offense for the Cardinals his sophomore year. He stands tall in the pocket and consistently delivers a good, catchable ball. After setting the school record for passing yards in his first year as the starting quarterback, he heads into year two with a strong foundation and the expectation of a solid junior season. He does a great job keeping his eyes downfield, making quick reads, and operating effectively in the RPO game. I like his frame and his ability to extend plays outside the pocket while still putting the ball in positions where his receivers can make plays. With continued development, I expect his recruiting attention to pick up this season. Excited to see what he can do his junior year.     [player_tooltip player_id='1836378' first='Manu' last='Smolinski'] - 2027 Athlete - Chisolm   I had the chance to watch Chisolm's 2027 athlete [player_tooltip player_id='1836378' first='Manu' last='Smolinski'] at the Exposure Series camp in Oklahoma. I watched him while he took reps at defensive back and really liked what I saw. While watching his film, he creates separation with his route running ability and uses his frame and athleticism to his advantage. He's a playmaker who can impact the game on both sides of the ball. He shows strong body control and has the ability to make acrobatic catches, consistently competing for the football when it's in the air. We are expecting big things from Manu his senior season.     Oscar Flores - 2029 OL - Bixby   Bixby 2029 offensive lineman Oscar Flores was intriguing film to turn on and watch. He brings a physical presence in the run game, showing he likes to initiate contact and move defenders at the point of attack. In pass protection, he does a good job staying patient, sitting in his set, not lunging, and keeping his hands ready to engage and control the defender. At 6'3”, 260 pounds with a 77.5” wingspan, he has a solid frame for the offensive line and moves well for his size. Overall, I'd like to see continued development in his pad level and leverage, to ensure he's consistently playing low and maximizing his power at the point of contact. He showed his athleticism competing against 6A-1 programs, moving well in space and effectively getting out to pick up blocks. With a long 6'6” frame, he has plenty of room to continue adding weight and developing physically. I liked his presence in the run game, he does a good job stepping with purpose and staying engaged on his blocks, showing the ability to sustain and finish in the trenches. I liked his pass protection technique, he gets set quickly, keeps his hands ready to engage, and does a nice job running defenders up the field to keep the pocket clean. Skinner will be someone to keep up with this upcoming season.     [player_tooltip player_id='1208264' first='Mason' last='McAlvain'] - 2027 OL/DL - Pryor   Pryor 2027 offense and defensive lineman, [player_tooltip player_id='1208264' first='Mason' last='McAlvain'], is a presence on both sides of the ball. Defensively, he finished the season with 48 tackles and 12 tackles for loss, consistently making his presence felt. He has the ability to plug both gaps in a 3-4 scheme and does a great job working down the line of scrimmage from the nose position. On the offensive side, he plays guard and moves well in space, showing he can get to the second level and effectively block defenders. He's physical at the point of attack and brings a strong, competitive edge. He's a fun player to watch and has the tools to play at the next level.
