The San Gabriel Valley has long been one of Southern California's premier high school football regions, and the Class of 2027 is producing several talented running backs who have been making their mark on the field. These backs from different programs across the SGV have shown real production and ability through their junior seasons, delivering consistent yards, big plays, and all-purpose contributions.

I thoroughly reviewed their Hudl film, studied their game stats, and broke down their tape to create honest evaluations. In the reports below, I focus on what each running back does particularly well right now, the areas where they can still grow, and how they project moving forward.

What he does well

Quick first-step burst and acceleration to the edge; strings together positive yards on outside runs and perimeter plays. Elusive in space with sharp cuts and lateral agility; consistently makes the first defender miss. Contributes in the passing game out of the backfield (107 receiving yards and 1 TD in 2025 season, including a 49-yard catch-and-run). Reliable volume producer on offense (381 rushing yards on 87 carries for 4.4 yards per carry; team's #2 rusher at 38.1 yards per game). Tough, competitive tackler on defense at cornerback (recorded tackles in playoff action).

What he can't do / not yet

Lacks size and power to break arm tackles or run between the tackles consistently; gets bounced off or stuffed against physical fronts. No home-run speed or long-run production (longest rush listed at 17 yards this season). Frame limits durability for a heavy workload; unlikely to hold up to repeated contact or inside carries at higher levels without major strength and bulk gains. Limited defensive impact statistically (only 4 tackles total); coverage technique and physicality in the box not yet developed. Blocking and route-running details are minimal in available film; situational roles only at this stage.

If / how you project to help a team winAt the high-school level he helps by providing quick outside production, receiving versatility, and occasional defensive snaps in a spread or run-heavy scheme. At the next level (D2, D3, or JUCO), he projects strictly as a situational change-of-pace back, gadget player, or return specialist in offenses that get him in space on screens, swings, and perimeter runs. He is not built to be a feature every-down back or traditional power runner; adding 20-30 lbs of functional strength while maintaining his quickness would allow him to create mismatches in third-down packages and special teams. Without that development, his ceiling is limited.

https://twitter.com/dimitri4_/status/2019135783228358675?s=20

What he does well

Capable of productive, efficient rushing performances. With added strength (aim for 195-205 lbs) and refinement in receiving/pass protection, he could develop into a solid depth option at D2/D1 level. He has the frame to grow but needs to increase consistency and develop a signature trait to project higher

https://twitter.com/Dizzy2nice/status/1959111383272030678?s=20

What he does well

Highly efficient lead back with strong production: 414 rushing yards on just 56 carries (7.4 YPC), 59.1 yards per game, and 5 rushing TDs as the team's top rusher. Physical enough to run between the tackles and finish short-yardage/goal-line situations (documented 2-yard and 5-yard TDs). With another 15lbs of functional strength, refinement in pass pro/receiving, and speed, he can carve out a role in third-down packages and short-yardage situations at D2/D1(group of 5) level. He would need size and strength gains (20+ lbs of functional muscle) plus a major jump in production, physicality, and consistency to get a higher level, College projection.

https://twitter.com/Daniel_Moreno27/status/1998273703445184621?s=20

What he does well

Dominant every-down feature back with outstanding volume and production: 1,183 rushing yards on 241 carries (4.9 YPC), 84.5 yards per game, and 15 rushing TDs, plus 301 receiving yards as the clear offensive leader. Explosive in big moments and playoffs: Posted massive playoff numbers (including a 264-yard, 4-TD game) and helped Montebello reach the CIF Division 13 championship; named CIF D13 Offensive MVP. Versatile all-purpose threat who contributes as a receiver out of the backfield and creates chunk plays consistently in spread/zone schemes. Tough, competitive finisher who handles a heavy workload and scores repeatedly; Hudl highlights show repeated big runs, vision, and positive-yardage production across regular season and playoff clips.

What he can't do / not yet

Extremely undersized (5'6”, 170 lbs); lacks the frame, power, and durability to consistently break arm tackles, run between the tackles, or absorb hits against physical fronts at higher levels. No elite top-end speed or consistent home-run ability documented; relies more on scheme, vision, and effort than pure athletic separation. Pass protection and advanced blocking details are minimal or unfeatured in available film. Production, while impressive, came in a lower-tier division (CIF D13); unproven against elite competition with bigger, faster defenses.

If / how you project to help a team win

At the high-school level he helped by being the focal point of the offense, a consistent chain-mover, red-zone threat, and playoff hero in run-heavy or spread schemes. At the next level he projects strictly as a situational change-of-pace back, gadget/receiving threat, or special-teams contributor at strong D3/NAIA or JUCO programs. Adding significant functional strength (20-30+ lbs) while keeping his burst and toughness could allow a depth role in third-down and return packages at higher College level. Without major physical upgrades, his size caps his ceiling despite the strong production and MVP-level performance.

https://twitter.com/coachmark_48/status/1994628462041338146?s=20
