It hasn’t even been 24 hours since Mabrey committed to Troy, and that’s been pretty on par with his recruitment. He seemingly exploded onto everyone’s radar this spring and positioned himself as a premier TE prospect in the state. He is a true mismatch, coming in at a rare 6’6 205 with a lot of space to get bigger. He is a forward-leaning, driving runner off the line who cuts through cushion with his long strides. He consistently wins above the rim and is a big box out option in the middle of the field, which is where he will make his money. He is an easy eval and will land himself high amongst other TEs in the state.

Mabrey offers one of the more intriguing skillsets in this group with his blend of size, athleticism, and ball skills. He’s a natural hands catcher who consistently keeps the ball off his frame and attacks it at the apex. His catch radius and ability to high point give quarterbacks a wide margin for error.

What separates him is his versatility. He can line up inline, flexed out, or even function as a big slot, creating mismatches against linebackers and smaller defensive backs. After the catch, he shows enough fluidity and awareness to be effective in quick game concepts. With continued development, Mabrey projects as a multi-dimensional weapon who can impact the game in several roles at the next level.

As he adds weight to his massive frame, he should continue to improve as a blocker. Mabrey has tacked on several FBS offers this offseason, and that trend should continue into the spring and summer.
