In contention for top overall 12U player of day one had to be 2031 Legacy Black (GA) ATH Jacion Murray. He stood out immediately from most of the athletes in this age group physically with an athletic body type and length for his age. Those size traits quickly turned into eye-opening plays during pool play as a mismatch athlete who dominated on both sides of the ball. Murray is a fluid athlete who is above most players his age athletically and has the football playmaking that comes naturally to him. He's likely to turn heads quickly at the high school level in the future.

Another 2031 ATH prospect who turned heads during 12U pool play was Georgia Buckeyes' Chase Norville. He began the day as their top offensive threat at receiver and finished with some quarterback reps as well. Norville is a natural at the receiver position and has the innate playmaking ability that undoubtedly follows him over his high school career. He has very good burst out of his release and is explosive with the ball in his hands. His speed and twitch create consistent separation during his routes, and Norville has the change of direction and light feet to be very good after the catch as well.

2031 QB [player_tooltip player_id='2132907' first='Levi' last='Askew'] led Legacy Black to an impressive day during pool play as the orchestrator of the offense with a 3-0 record. Askew has a developed arm for his age and ripped it consistently to force defenses to guard the entire field. He can stretch the field vertically, but also fires with velocity over the middle and on sideline throws. Askew throws a nice ball at this stage of his devleopment and was a key reason why Legacy Black had an impressive showing on day one.

The Gwinnett Bombers got a great performance from 2032 WR/DB [player_tooltip player_id='2117609' first='Dashn' last='Miller'] all day during pool play. A team that chose to move up from 10U playing with younger and smaller athletes impressed, especially Miller, who was definitely their MVP and best athlete on day one. He showed good body control for his age and was a true competitor, matching up with some imposing opponents throughout the day and standing out among them. Miller stood out on both sides of the ball and was one of the better two-way players in the 12U group today.

2032 QB [player_tooltip player_id='1693200' first='RJ' last='Perkins'] immediately impressed at the quarterback position on Saturday, in his first few reps that we were able to see for Up Next. They brought two good QBs with them, who we'll touch on in the coming days, but Perkins was one of the best gunslingers of pool play. He has a live arm for a smaller athlete right now, and has developed mechanics for his age in his upper and lower body that elevate him over many 12U quarterbacks. Perkins has a strong arm that was on display when pushing the ball downfield and in intermediate routes over the middle and to the sideline. He throws a very catchable ball and puts it where his receivers can easily make a play and in stride. Perkins also made several nice defensive plays and showed his young athletic versatility today.

Listed as a QB on our site, but 2031 ATH [player_tooltip player_id='2105553' first='Elijah' last='Watkins'] had a tremendous performance at receiver in the games that we could catch for the Middle TN Elite Bombers. Watkins was one of the top receivers of the day in our eyes and has a bright future at that position if he elects to focus there at the high school level without seeing his QB tape. He flashed excellent hands and ball skills, and seemingly caught everything thrown his way when watching him, and looks the ball in well. Watkins also did a great job of finding space and holes in the defense for his quarterback to find him often.

The Legacy Red squad had their fair share of top athletes in the 12U group as well, highlighted by 2031 WR/DB [player_tooltip player_id='2130946' first='Braylen' last='Jarrells']. He stands out right away physically with length and an athletic body type among his peers. Those physical traits translated to success on the field with good body control and ball skills as a receiver. Jarrells made some nice plays on defense as well during the day, but his upside as a receiver is very high if he continues to progess in the future.

2032 QB Caden Ragans caught our attention early on in the first game of the day in the 12U group for Apex. He's smooth mechanically for his age and throws a pretty ball that makes it easy for his playmakers to make a play. Ragans scanned the field well and progressed through his reads quickly. He also threw with anticipation well and put the ball where it needed to be so his man could catch it in stride.

Another impressive quarterback from day one of the 12U pool play was 2032 Money Team Athletics QB Andres Sandoval Jr. We only got to watch him in one game, but Sandoval was impressive, throwing the ball with possibly the best arm talent we saw in this age group on Saturday. Sandoval can make all the throws asked of him at this level and flashed that ability in the final game of the day. He can push the ball down the field from any spot and put velocity and zip that were eye-opening.

X3 Impact had several standout performers from day one in the game we were able to see, but their MVP in our eyes may have been 2033 WR Jhett Grossaint. He's one of the younger players on this list, but he made himself known quickly on day one in their first matchup with Apex. Grossaint looked like a natural at the position and showed the early signs that you're looking for in this age group for receivers. He extended his arms and hands well to bring the ball in, and fluidly caught the ball in stride if it was thrown accurately. Grossaint was quick out of his breaks and got himself open consistently with crisp routes as a top receiver on day one.
