McMains measures in at 6’2 230-pounds playing DE/RT for Englewood. Last season, he had 20 total tackles (15 solo, 5 assisted), 9.5 TFL, 9.5 sacks, 3 QB pressures, 1 FF, with 23 pancake blocks offensively. Displays good athletic ability due to good acceleration, speed, lateral quickness, and balance. On both sides of the ball, he has good initial quickness out of his stance with good hand speed to contact the defender. Obtains a low pad level due to his good knee bend and flexibility. Defensively, he shows a very good bend around with the edge. Uses his very good hand strength with good block shedding to disengage and attack the QB. Does a great job collapsing the pocket and consistently attacking the backfield. McMains also demonstrates very good pursuit. He will chase the running back out in the open space for the tackle. I’m very excited to see how he performs this upcoming season.
McMain is a dynamic two-way talent, but his impact on the defensive side of the ball demands attention. He recorded 20 total tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss and an impressive 9.5 sacks, along with a forced fumble. His burst off the edge puts a strain on the line and he uses quick hands to get off of blocks and close on quarterbacks in a hurry. McMain consistently creates chaos in the backfield, making life difficult on obvious passing downs. His knack for finishing plays behind the line of scrimmage shows his natural pass rushing instincts. As he continues to add strength and refine his technique, McMain has the potential to build on his momentum and solidify himself as one of the more intriguing defensive prospects on the rise.
