Two top ten state ranked teams clashed at Apogee Stadium on the campus of the University of North Texas in Denton, Tx on Friday night. Guyer and Atascocita both came into this contest with some of the best talent that you will see on one field during the regular season. Both teams have prospects that will make headlines when they play on Saturdays in the very near future for college programs. We will spotlight players for Guyer who had an impact on the game’s outcome, made big plays and who were difference makers. [player_tooltip player_id="131814" first="Jackson" last="Arnold"] (QB) C/O 2023 Arnold was impressive from the start!!! At 6’2 200 lbs. , he has added muscle to his frame since I last saw him in the playoffs in 2020. Jackson has a strong arm, whips the ball thru the air with ease, he can make all the throws on the route tree, stands tall in the pocket, has good pocket presence, has the mobility to escape pressure, and runs the read option well which makes him a duel threat. Arnold has the power when he runs to break tackles, which he did in the first quarter to punch it in for a rushing TD. He is the Wildcats field general and has a great gasp of the Guyer playbook. In the first quarter he threw a deep shot to junior wideout Sutton Lee , who made an over the shoulder catch for a TD. Jackson displayed his accuracy on his ball placement by throwing only where his wideout had a chance for the reception. The defender had very good coverage on the this play. Jackson finished the night 29-41 for 337 yards and 4 total TDs. Arnold is ranked #114 player overall in the state, and #14 in his quarterback class of 2023. By seasons end those numbers will change, Arnold will be a highly sought after recruit and expect him to be invited to some of the high profile camps around the country. Grayson O’Bara (WR) C/O 2022 The senior wideout is a big play waiting to happen. O’Bara has the speed to turn a 10 yard catch into a score in a heartbeat. Grayson runs crisp routes, his speed allows him to get up on defenders quickly who play off coverage, he can line up inside or outside and be a threat, and has soft hands that smother the football. O’Bara finished the night with 9 catches for 164 yards and a game clinching TD catch, where he made defenders miss and raced up the sideline leaving defenders in the dust. The Dartmouth commit, plays like a number one wide receiver on a Guyer team that is loaded at the receiver position. I expect Grayson to be a key cog in the Guyer offense as they began their district schedule and another run at a state title. [player_tooltip player_id="60771" first="Vincent" last="Paige"] (LB/ DE) C/O 2022 Paige is one of the most versatile defensive players in the state. Vincent lines up and causes havoc from various positions, has speed like a defensive back, plays sideline to sideline, has a great wingspan that allows him to keep blockers from getting in his chest, has a nonstop motor, can rush the passer from all angles, has exceptional bend off the edge, is a sure tackler in the open field and was just about unlockable for most of the night against the Eagles. Offenses don’t know where he’s going to lineup on every play. Paige has the awareness to punch at the ball when he’s going in for a tackle, as he punched out the ball from QB Gavin Session from behind, but Session was to retain possession. Paige showed off his speed when he returned a kickoff for 46 yards, and during the run he reversed field , cut back and hit the sideline. Vincent is committed to UNT in Denton, and the Mean Green have hit the jackpot. Paige projects to be a linebacker or rush end at the next level. His 6’2 215 lbs. frame will allow him to bulk up at the next level without losing any speed and I expect Vincent to play early as a true freshman.
