Prep Redzone presents Part 1 of the Top running back performers in NJ from Week 1
<strong>Amier Alford |</strong> RB | New Brunswick
Alford carried the football 18 times for 97 yards and two touchdowns
in a 42-17 win over Rahway.

Ives rushed 16 times for 238 yards and two touchdowns in a 15-12 loss to Palmyra.

<strong>Jahmeir Townsend |</strong> RB | Glassboro
Townsend rushed six times for 113 yards and one touchdown. Two of the runs were for 30-plus yards including the touchdown run. In both cases, Townsend did a good job of taking advantage of what looked like some great blocking downfield by the wide receivers. He had a couple of nice runs inside as well. He’ll have to work some more on his speed.

Shwed carried the football 12 times for 119 yards and one touchdown in a 26-0 win over Becton.

Udoh carried the football 18 times for 182 yards and four touchdowns in a 51-17 win over Notre Dame.
<strong>Nick Messina</strong> | RB | Pascack Valley
Messina carried the football 24 times for 166 yards and three touchdowns in a49-13 win over Hoboken.

Henry rushed 14 times for 217 yards and two touchdowns in a 27-7 win over Morristown. He also caught a 6-yard touchdown pass. Henry is a compact back that runs with power and is able to break off 20 and 30 yard runs. He’s a north-south runner who is able to take runs inside and break them to the outside at the second level. Henry has a strong lower body and he keeps his feet moving. He showcases good peripheral vision.

Burkhardt ran the football 12 times for 153 yards and three touchdowns in a 42-6 win over Haddon Township. He also caught one pass for 35 yards. His touchdown run was over 40-plus yards and involved him taking an inside handoff and running through an open lane for the score. Burkhardt also scored on an 85-yard kickoff return, once again showcasing his vision. His final run of 27 yards involved him breaking at least five tackles. Impressive.

Jackson ran for 108 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries in a 42-17 win over Rahway. Johnson’s punishing style of running wore down Rahway’s defense. He was able to get yards in little chunks. Johnson also plays linebacker for New Brunswick.
