Prep RedZone Arkansas Week O What We Learned

Week 0 of the Arkansas high school football season is in the books. Over the weekend, we had the opportunity to learn a number of things about several teams. We will also highlight some more players that stood out over the weekend. Many teams and players set the bar high for the remainder of the season with the performances over the weekend. Looking first, at Pulaski Academy, the Bruins do not appear to have missed a beat with new head coach Anthony Lucas taking the controls. The Bruins offense proved to be as high-powered as ever with [player_tooltip player_id="75067" first="Joe" last="Himon"], [player_tooltip player_id="168255" first="Charlie" last="Fiser"], and [player_tooltip player_id="165832" first="Charlie" last="Barker"] causing plenty of headaches for the Robinson defense. Barker was on the receiving end of three touchdown receptions Friday night. The Bruins will be a team that other teams in the 5-A conference will have to continue to worry about this season. The Bryant Hornets are fresh off of a third straight 7-A sate championship in the state of Arkansas. In the yearly, match up against Benton, the Hornets proved that the more things change the more they stay the same. Bryant running back Chris Gattaway set the tone with his extremely bursts into the secondary. Gattaway racked up 230 all-purpose yards and tacked on three touchdowns in the 42-3 victory over Benton in the Salt Bowl. Bryant no longer being a powerhouse may have been greatly exaggerated. The Farmington Cardinals were impressive in a victory over Rogers Heritage. The Farmington offensive line was impressive with center [player_tooltip player_id="149539" first="Hunter" last="Marshall"] using his quickness well at the center position and getting into opposing defensive linemen quickly. [player_tooltip player_id="157343" first="Cameron" last="Vanzant"] got off to a great start as Farmington quarterback. Vanzant passed for 240 yards and four touchdowns and set the bar high for a solid 2021 season. Meanwhile, the Booneville Bearcats on the strength of a strong running game shut out the Dardanelle Sand Lizards 32-0. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="92902" first="Randon" last="Ray"] punched the ball in the end zone two times. Ray was able to tack on 67 yards rushing as the Bearcats did all of the damage in the first half last Friday night. Booneville will take on Ozark this Friday in a contest that Prep RedZone Arkansas will be in attendance for this week. The Fayetteville Bulldogs came out of the gates hot on Friday night. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="75105" first="Bladen" last="Fike"] and wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="75066" first="Isaiah" last="Sategna"] got off to an impressive start against the Conway Wampus Cats. Fike had no problems airing it out on Friday, passing for 418 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for a touchdown against Conway. [player_tooltip player_id="75066" first="Isaiah" last="Sategna"] exploded for 230 yards receiving, 80 yards on the ground, and three touchdowns. Fayetteville seems to be clicking on all cylinders. This is just a sample of what we learned from last Friday and Saturday nights in Arkansas. The teams were ready to go in week 0 and as were the standouts. We will start previewing some key games to watch the remainder of the week as well as cover the Booneville-Ozark game this Friday night in Booneville.
