Recruiting Report: Will Turnbull/Cloquet (2022)

<strong>CLOQUET--</strong> Northstar Football News once again makes their trip to the North Shore to chat with another "brother" from the <a href="https://twitter.com/cloquetfootball?lang=en">Cloquet Lumberjacks</a> football family. We chatted with 2021 NFN prospect <strong><a href="https://twitter.com/WillTurnbull89_">Will Turnbull</a> </strong>about his 2019 season, his recruiting trail, and much more! <strong>Get to Know Will Turnbull</strong> Will Turnbull plays both defensive end and tight end for this Lumberjacks program. At 6'2 215 pounds, he has a great size that is beneficial for each position. The nice thing with Turnbull is his experience. He's played almost every position there is on the defensive line which gives the Lumberjacks a nice flex when they need him on the line. His biggest strengths are his speed off the ball, the power is his hands to get would-be tacklers, and his ability to swim and rip around offensive tackles. <strong>Best Parts About His Positions</strong> The defensive line gives Turnbull the favorite of the position by getting by the offensive lineman and getting to the running back to make the tackle in the backfield. Pass rushing is another favorite Will has as well aside from getting the running back. There is a family bond to Will playing tight end. We met his brother <a href="https://www.northstarfootballnews.com/2020/03/northwoods-recruiting-report-alec-turnbull-cloquet-2022/"><strong>Alec Turnbull</strong></a> a few weeks back who's the quarterback for the Lumberjacks. "I love playing tight end because I can catch passes from my brother who is a quarterback and we have created a special bond through that connection," Will said about his brother Alec and what his best is at tight end. <strong>College Interest/Elevator Pitch</strong> Turnbull much like his brother hasn't gotten started with much-recruiting interest from the class of 2022. "I've been contacted by some small D-3 schools for camps," Will said about the recruiting interest he has received. As for Will's elevator pitch to his future college suitors, he had this to say: <strong>I know I can bring my competitiveness and hard-working attitude to any school I go to.</strong> <strong>Offseason Work Ons</strong> Bigger, stronger, and speed are the biggest work ons the Cloquet staff asked for Will Turnbull to work on this offseason. Specifically for a tight end, working on his route running and ball catching ability are other specifics the Lumberjacks staff asked of Turnbull this offseason. Turnbull's increased his metabolism by eating and lifting more this offseason and has a great benefit for the other specific work ons, having a brother that's the quarterback for the Lumberjacks who can both work on drills together and benefit each other through and through. <strong>Will's Mentor</strong> Turnbull stays in the immediate family with his mentor. He credits his dad because he's always pushing Will to do his absolute best. "He’s hard on me, but at the end of the day it’s because he knows I have potential and that if I want to play at the next level I am going to have to work harder than everyone," Will said about his dad's push to get the will to the next level of football. <strong>Learning from 2019/2020 Goals</strong> In 2019, Turnbull discovered that his leadership ability was stronger than he had originally thought. "People look up to me more than thought," he said about his leadership ability on the Lumberjacks. Will said his biggest goal for the Lumberjacks is to get back to the Class AAAA state tournament, which Cloquet has been in recent years.
