The game with the biggest potential for an offensive explosion is in Inman. Chapman, ranked No. 2 in 3A, will host Byrnes, the No. 6 5A team, in a matchup that seems to offer a feast for fans of offense.
Gabe Rogers led the Rebels to a 55-14 victory over Greer last week, throwing five touchdowns. Colin Imhoff opened some eyes for the Rebels, hauling in six catches for 128 yards and two scores.
The Panthers haven’t played yet, but they return a ton of talent, including nine players ranked by PRZ. QB Drew Settle Drew Settle 6'2" | 175 lbs | QB Chapman | 2022 State SC leads the way, along with receivers Walt Waddell Walt Waddell 6'5" | 180 lbs | WR Chapman | 2022 State SC , DJ Black DJ Black 6'2" | 175 lbs | WR Chapman | 2022 State SC , and Tim McClurkin Tim McClurkin 5'11" | 175 lbs | WR Chapman | 2022 State SC and a deep and talented offensive line.
Byrnes’ defense did a good job limiting Greer last week, but Chapman’s offense is a different animal. On the flip side, Byrnes put up a ton of points against a good Greer defense. Chapman is replacing an All-Region player at every level after losing several standouts to graduation.
This one is going to be a lot of fun.
Boiling Springs at Dorman – The Bulldogs will get their first look at live action, with a team that features new coordinators on both sides of the ball and a ton of new faces, particularly on defense. Malik Harper Malik Harper 6'0" | 190 lbs | LB Boiling Springs | 2022 State SC will be counted on heavily to lead the way on that side of the ball.
Dorman struggled to move the ball in a 20-7 Week 0 loss to Clover. The Cavaliers need a better offensive effort in order to bounce back against the Bulldogs.
Woodruff at Hillcrest – Woodruff lit up the scoreboard in Week 0, downing Chesnee 41-28 behind four touchdown passes from Carson Tucker and a 175-yard, three-score night from Mathias Dial. This week, Woodruff will step up two classes to visit 5A Hillcrest.
The Rams fell to Greenwood in Week 0, but Bennett Judy came up big for Hillcrest, throwing for 290 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Clinton at Laurens – The annual Laurens County rivalry comes in Week 1 this season, with Laurens coming off a close loss to T.L. Hanna and Clinton hoping to ride the momentum of a big win.
The Raiders fell 23-17 to the Yellow Jackets, but Jayden McGowan Jayden McGowan 5'9" | 170 lbs | WR Laurens | 2022 State SC was everywhere. He had 207 all-purpose yards and scored a touchdown for Laurens.
Clinton, meanwhile, blasted Pendleton 48-24 behind a fantastic rushing attack. The Red Devils averaged better than 10 yards per carry, with Jishun Copeland, Jykorie Gray, Bryson James, and Danny Kinard all rushing for more than 40 yards, led by Copeland’s 104. QB Davis Wilson did a good job running the option offense, and LT Peyton Pitts and C Jaylin Alexander paved the way up front for Clinton.
