On top of two previously scheduled games, two more help lead our list of to games for the Pee Dee/Grand Strand and Lowcountry this week. Maybe no game in the state will draw as much attention as one of the late additions.
Myrtle Beach’s trip to Dillon on Friday will feature one of Class 4A’s best squads heading to one of Class 3As. Seahawks quarterback Ryan Burger Ryan Burger 6'3" | 175 lbs | QB Myrtle Beach | 2022 State SC , receivers Adam Randall Adam Randall 6'3" | 200 lbs | WR Myrtle Beach | 2022 State SC and Jon Simmons, tailback Malachi Washington and defensive standouts Cam Ward Cam Ward 5'4" | 170 lbs | LB Myrtle Beach | 2023 State SC , Tyron Miles, Frank Goings and Tre Phillips Tre Phillips 6'4" | 220 lbs | DL Myrtle Beach | 2022 State SC are leading the charge.
Dillon will counter with tailback Nemo Squire Nemo Squire 5'9" | 195 lbs | RB Dillon | 2022 State SC and quarterback Jack Grider Jack Grider 6'0" | 185 lbs | QB Dillon | 2022 State SC – both of whom are beneficiaries of a massive offensive line. The Wildcats took a hit with last week’s announcement that back-up and highly effective running back Nigel George Nigel George 5'5" | 170 lbs | RB Dillon | 2022 State SC is out for the year. However, there is plenty of luster left in this Friday Night Lights matchup.
Cheraw at West Florence – West Florence went from a team of unknowns to one that instantly looks like it could dwarf last year’s offensive potential. In a 42-point outburst at Lexington to open the season, the Knights got 262 total yards and a pair of touchdowns from new starting quarterback Orlando Hudson, 58 rushing yards and four touchdowns from tailback Terry McKithen Terry McKithen 6'0" | 180 lbs | RB West Florence | 2022 State SC and five different receivers caught a pass. Now roll that energy into the fact that West Florence will be opening up its brand, spanking new on-campus stadium, and fireworks could continue.
Loris at North Myrtle Beach – Loris has already been a part of one defensive slugfest – last week’s 10-0 loss at Class 5A squad St. James. Omarion Bland Omarion Bland 5'8" | 150 lbs | DB Loris | 2022 State SC , Cameron Faircloth, Randall Bellamy and the rest of this Lions defense will be even more tested against North Myrtle Beach. The Chiefs are led by quarterback Cameron Freeman Cameron Freeman 6'3" | 210 lbs | QB North Myrtle Beach | 2022 State SC and Chandler McCall Chandler McCall 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB North Myrtle Beach | 2022 State SC . Add in a couple influential first-year starters, and the Chiefs will be looking to keep up last year’s success.
Westside at Summerville – In a semi-rare cross-state match-up this season, Westside and quarterback Peter Zamora Peter Zamora 6'0" | 200 lbs | QB Westside | 2022 State SC and this potentially high-flying offense will get another game under its belt. The Rams were held to 20 points in a season-opening loss to Belton-Honea Path last week, but with Zamora, tailback Dee Robertson Dee Robertson 5'6" | 150 lbs | ATH Westside | 2024 State SC and a slew of receivers, the points will likely start to increase.
