As we get closer to the start of the Fall 2021 season these young men are practicing with their respective teams getting ready for their Week 1 matchup. With that being said let’s take a look at 7 preseason names to watch as the days are getting closer and closer to gameday.
[player_tooltip player_id="168914" first="Tyson" last="Beck"] Homewood Flossmoor Twitter Highlights Mr. Beck is from Homewood Flossmoor, he played on Varsity this past spring season where he was a sight to see. He currently holds one offer from Valparaiso University but the best is yet to come for this young man. What I like most about his playstyle is his ability to get off blocks with his use of hands at the point of attack. This results in meeting the running back at the line of scrimmage for no gain on the play. Heading into this fall season look for this young man to take a bigger role in this defensive unit and to showcase his full range of skills. As he does, you're going to want to take a look as he's a Top DL in the class of 2023. [player_tooltip player_id="133959" first="Andrew" last="Laurich"] Yorkville Twitter Highlights Mr. Laurich is from Yorkville, he played on Varsity this past spring season where we got glimpses of what’s to come over the next two seasons. He has an aggressive playstyle where he attacks the ballcarrier no matter where he’s at on the field and will sprint down the line of scrimmage to make a shoe-string tackle saving a big play from happening. This young man also gets into the backfield quickly with his use of hands at the point of attack which results in quarterback pressures and making the tackle at the line of scrimmage for no gain. This young man still has room to grow and hone his craft further, as he continues to do so be on the lookout for how he produces this fall with fellow 23’ DL [player_tooltip player_id="145473" first="Andrew" last="Zook"]. [player_tooltip player_id="145342" first="Brooks" last="Bahr"] Loyola Academy Twitter Highlights Mr. Bahr is from Loyola Academy, he played on JV this past spring season and was a sight to see. He has great size standing at 6’6 250 which goes hand in hand with his push and pull technique that he utilizes to beat the block at the point of attack. This young man consistently got into the backfield getting pressure on the quarterback as well as making the tackle in the backfield for a loss on the play this past spring season on the JV level. He’s also quick off the ball getting a step on the offensive lineman and he uses this to his advantage to take the outside rush or can fake the outside rush to shoot inside splitting the gap. Overall, as we get closer to the start of the fall season be sure to watch how this young man produces and the impact that he makes for his team as he has a high ceiling. [player_tooltip player_id="65911" first="Jeh’Chys" last="Brown"] Centralia Twitter Highlights Mr. Brown is from Centralia, he played on Varsity this past spring season where he showcased what he can do. What I like most about this young man is his ability to fill gaps in run support and getting pressure on the quarterback. He does so with his use of hands at the point of attack to beat the block. This results in him forcing the quarterback to make a throw with a defender in his face and gets off the block to meet the running back at the line of scrimmage for no gain on the play. He's set himself up to have a strong fall junior season performance with his 6'3 265 frame, be sure to keep an eye on him as he does so. [player_tooltip player_id="119890" first="Boston" last="Bower"] Huntley Twitter Highlights Mr. Bower is from Huntley, he played on Varsity this past spring season and showcased what he can do. What I like most about this young man is how he beats the block by using his hands at the point of attack. This results in him meeting the running back at the line of scrimmage for no gain on the play and getting pressure on the quarterback forcing him to make throws with a defender in his face. This young man has potential yet to come to light and I'm excited to see what he has in store for us. Keep an eye on him as he continues to hone his craft and develop further as we head into the fall season. [player_tooltip player_id="65880" first="Jayden" last="Sutton"] IC Catholic Prep Twitter Highlights Mr. Sutton is from IC Catholic Prep, he played on Varsity this past spring season where we got glimpses of what's to come over the next two seasons. What I like most about this young man is his ability to get pressure on the quarterback to impact the outcome of the play. He's quick off the ball and goes full force into the offensive lineman pushing him back into the backfield right after the ball is snapped. This young man has room to develop himself further and hone his craft, as we head into the fall season be on the lookout for that to be showcased during his performance. [player_tooltip player_id="148599" first="Karl" last="Schmalz"] Niles Notre Dame Twitter Highlights Mr. Schmalz is from Niles Notre Dame, he played on Varsity this past spring season and showed glimpses of what's to come. What I like most about this young man is the good foundational skillet that he possesses which he utilizes with his pass rush and filling the gaps during run support with his use of hands at the point of attack. During his pass rush, he's able to get pressure on the quarterback flushing him out of the pocket to make a throw on the run. This young man is poised for a breakout season this upcoming fall and you should be on the lookout for his stock to rise as a result. Notables [player_tooltip player_id="145473" first="Andrew" last="Zook"] Yorkville Twitter Highlights [player_tooltip player_id="119098" first="Keeven" last="Blanton"] Phillips Twitter Highlights
These are some of the Preseason Names to Watch at the DL position for the class of 2023. Keep an eye on these young men as they get ready to put the pads on. Be sure to follow @jamaskane regarding news & information for Illinois High School Football, @PrepRedzoneIL, and @PrepRedzone.
