Back with another round of commitments, this past week saw a good batch of defensive backs making their future college choices. Take a look at five recent commitments and what makes these players such great additions to their future schools. 1. [player_tooltip player_id="131512" first="Maddox" last="Epperson"] (SR-OL) - Aledo High School (Aledo, TX) - Furman Epperson received multiple offers including from Eastern Kentucky, Missouri State and Morehead State. Going off of his tape, Epperson displays excellent footwork, especially when he is snapping the ball. Centers face one of the toughest tasks of being both accurate snapping the ball and quickly switching to being a blocker. Epperson does both excellently both in practice and during the game. 2. [player_tooltip player_id="60739" first="Camron" last="Cooper"] (SR-DL) - Dayton High School (Dayton, TX) - Louisiana 2020-21 Season: 37 total tackles, 11 tackles for a loss, 5 sacks Cooper received a total of 15 offers including the likes of Air Force, Alabama A&M, Alabama State and Colorado State, but Cooper went with Louisiana. He is rated a three-star edge rusher on 247 Sports. Cooper is fast off the snap and can slip through the offensive line to make the play if there is even the tiniest gap. This is a player that should not be left unblocked because he is an opportunist and will make the most out of any mistakes from the opposing offense. 3. Ahmaad Moses (SR-DB) - Mansfield Summit High School (Arlington, TX) - Tulane 2020-21 Season: 107 total tackles, 79 solo tackles, 14 tackles for a loss, 8 pass breakups, 2 interceptions Moses received plenty of recognition from colleges by having 14 offers and visited three schools. He ultimately decided to choose Tulane as his next destination in his football career but he also received offers from Memphis, Utah, Arkansas State and Colorado. He also visited both Memphis and Utah in June. Moses was selected to first-team all-district. Judging by the stats alone, Moses is around the ball often, but he is also excellent on special teams with his speed and athleticism. Moses is an all-around great player and Tulane just made a great addition to its arsenal. 4. Jeffrey Ugo (SR-DB) - George Ranch High School (Richmond, TX) - Utah Ugo also had multiple offers on the table but decided he wanted his future to be at Utah which seems like the perfect organization for such an athletic and speedy defensive back. He also received offers from the likes of Houston Baptist, Indiana, Louisiana and Missouri. On top of his speed and athleticism, much like Moses, Ugo is an opportunist and is there whenever a mistake is made by the opposing offense. His speed comes in especially handy whenever he is called upon on a blitz and can reach the backfield before the play is even in motion. Ugo will make a great addition to a Utah team that is full of talented coaches and teammates. 5. [player_tooltip player_id="60733" first="Austin" last="Jordan"] (SR-DB) - Ryan High School (Denton, TX) - Texas Jordan is one of the most highest-ranking players in the state, so it was not surprising to see him get the offers that he did, including Ohio State, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Auburn. Jordan decided to commit to the Texas Longhorns on July 14. Much like Ugo, Jordan also runs track and has incredible speed, He was also named to first-team all-district selection unanimously, and helped his school reach a state title last season. He can run a 10.98 100-meter dash and a 22.02 200-meter dash. Looking at the tape, Jordan displays a lot of intelligence from the defensive back spot, able to be in front of the receiver to make the play, and having excellent awareness of what play the opposing offense is going to go for. Even more so, Jordan knows the excellent sleight of hand skill to get the ball out of the ball carrier and in his hands almost like a magician. The Longhorns are lucky to have such a talented player.
