In his second stint as the head man in charge, Schiano has made it a top priority to recruit the state of New Jersey and build a wall around it to create a pipeline for the program like it once did under his earlier tenure with the program.
With that being said, you hear the old adage of building a football program “from the inside out” and Schiano and his staff have made it a high priority to recruit the offensive line position from their own backyard.
The size and athleticism of the offensive line recruits that have verbally committed so far in the 2022 recruiting class for Rutgers Football are very impressive, and today we are going to look at four offensive line verbal commitments for Rutgers and what they bring to the program.
Jacob Allen Jacob Allen 6'6" | OL Hun | 2022 State NJ 6-6 293 Offensive Tackle The Hun School of Princeton, Princeton New Jersey
An athletic offensive tackle that has the body control and quick feet to anchor and reposition against oncoming defensive ends. He shows the ability to move with control and confidence in his mechanics in pass protection which allows him to isolate defenders in one on one matchups. He held offers from other programs such as Alabama, Penn State, and Notre Dame to name a few, but chose to stay home and be a huge verbal commit for the hometown program.
Nelson Monegro Nelson Monegro 6'7" | 260 lbs | OL Union City | 2022 State NJ 6-8 295 Offensive Tackle Union City High School, Union City New Jersey
A huge athlete playing at the offensive tackle position and displays quick feet which are shown on film when setting the edge in the run game with reaching the defensive end with ease. He plays with an aggressive demeanor which allows him to finish blocks to the echo of the whistle, even in pass protection where he quickly sets and throws defensive ends with ease. He held offers from programs such as Arizona State, Buffalo, and Kentucky to name a few but has verbally committed to Rutgers and has given a huge cornerstone tackle for the future.
Joe De Croce Joe De Croce 6'6" | 290 lbs | OL Northern Valley | 2022 State NJ 6-6 290 Offensive Tackle Northern Valley Regional High School-Demarest, Demarest New Jersey
An aggressive offensive tackle that plays with good leverage and hand placement in the run game which allows him to finish blocks on a consistent basis. He has the body control and athleticism to reach second-level defenders and seal them off to create and extend running lanes for the running back to see and use. He held offers from programs such as Boston College, Vanderbilt, and Wake Forest to name a few, but is taking his physical style of play to Rutgers where he has verbally committed.
Taj White Taj White 6'5" | 280 lbs | OL Hudson Catholic | 2022 State NJ 6-5 334 Hudson Catholic High School, Hudson New Jersey
A powerful explosive offensive tackle that has a strong lower body and it is put on display when watching him block in either the run or pass game just by the sheer physical and power he imposes on defenders. He demonstrates the ability to move well in space and good body control to grab onto defenders and have his way with them. He held offers from programs such as Nebraska, Virginia Tech, and Syracuse to name a few but the athletic mauler is coming to wear the scarlet and gray for Rutgers.
