Maryland HS Football Players to Watch: Bayside Region

Prep Redzone looks at a few players that we think you should monitor in the Bayside Region this upcoming season. These teams saw their 2020 season wiped out because of the COVID-19 pandemic. We gathered as much information as possible on returning 2022 and 2023 players. Some teams had little for me to go on but that may change towards the start of this season. <strong>CAMBRIDGE-SOUTH DORCHESTER</strong> Tayon Fletcher/5-9/200/RB/2022 Nisim Hawkins/5-9/165/200/2023 Dario Belizaire/LB/2022 Zahcary Gorsuch/5-10/215/DT/2023 Kamren Dockins/5-8/170/RB/2022 Jordan Manokey/5-8/225/RB/2022 Fletcher plays both linebacker and running back, but we will give him the running back designation for now. He was an All-League performer at both positions this past season. Fletcher has a compact build, a north-south running style, and runs hard. <strong>COLONEL RICHARDSON</strong> [player_tooltip player_id="157686" first="Cameron" last="Errickson"]/5-10/185/RB/2022 <strong>KENT COUNTY</strong> Jamar Ringgold/5-7/140/WR/2023 <strong>SNOW HILL</strong> [player_tooltip player_id="118994" first="Bryce" last="Purnell"]/5-11/250/2022 [player_tooltip player_id="155345" first="Zyheem" last="Collick"]/5-11/QB/2024 <strong>WASHINGTON</strong> Michael James/6-0/260/TE/2023 <strong>DECATUR</strong> [player_tooltip player_id="172807" first="Brycen" last="Coleman"]/6-4/175/WR/2024 Zimere Handy/5-8/165/RB/2022 RJ Brittingham/5-11/200/DB/2022 Caden Shockley/5-7/170/RB/2023 Jerry Grant/6-0/240/OL/2022 Ashten Snelsire/6-3/210/QB/2022 Shaki Bowen/5-0/192/RB/2022 Luke Mergott/6-2/195/WR/2023 Ashten Snelsire had a strong junior year campaign as he completed 113-of-204 passes for 1,714 yards, 23 touchdowns, and three interceptions. Zimre Handy led the team in catches (35), yards (529), and touchdowns (10). Bryce Coleman is a rising 2024 prospect. Coleman caught 13 passes for 317 yards and two touchdowns in his first season of high school football. I can see Coleman developing into a solid tight end prospect. <strong>EASTON</strong> [player_tooltip player_id="180893" first="Kevin" last="O’Connor"]/6-4/200/QB-DE/2023 Anthony Brinkley/6-2/235/TE/2023 LJ Murray/5-11/165/WR/2022 Reis Burgstahler/5-10/165/DB/2023 Jordan Nixon/6-0/180/WR/2023 Zachary Bramble/5-9/185/RB/2022 Zachary Bramble is the returning total tackles leader (61 total, 33 solo). [player_tooltip player_id="180893" first="Kevin" last="O’Connor"] saw most his time on the field this past season on defense. O’Connor made 52 total tackles (18 solo) last season. <strong>KENT ISLAND</strong> Matthew Burnside/6-1/165/QB/2022 <strong>NORTH CAROLINE</strong> Owen Doyle/5-11/200/LB/2022 Xavien Parker/5-7/140/DB/2022 McCabe Piavis/6-4/215/DE/2022 Owen Doyle is a prime candidate to get ranked during our update in September. Doyle plays fast, hits hard, and can defend against both the pass and the run effectively. He is a little undersized by FBS standards but he makes his presence known on the football field. McCabe Piavis is another prospect that will benefit from being able to play a full season. <strong>PARKSIDE</strong> William Sadberry IV/6-3/260/DL/2022 Marlin Harding/6-0/160/DB/2022 Sadberry plugs up the middle of the defensive line at the nose guard position.  Sadberry, Harding, and his teammates have limited highlights from the 2020 season due to the pandemic. <strong>QUEEN ANNE’S COUNTY</strong> Jordan Johnston/5-10/165/WR/2022 [player_tooltip player_id="90566" first="Dillon" last="Meekins"]/5-11/200/LB/2022 Wilson Smothers Jr./5-10/200/RB/2023 &nbsp; <strong>WICOMICO</strong> Malachi Mazzetti/6-2/215/LB/2022 [player_tooltip player_id="127778" first="Lennon" last="Cox"]/6-2/275/OL/2022 Norwid Desir/6-4/270/DL/2022 BJ Cook/5-11/208/RB/2022 Jayce Freeman/6-4/215/TE/2022 I look forward to watching Norwid Desir play this upcoming season. Desir was a match-up nightmare for opponents during the spring season. His size, motor, and power make him hard to block at the high school level. Desir also lines up at offensive tackle for his team. I love his upside on the defensive side of the football. I can see him playing offensive guard as well.
