Rynal Wortman Rynal Wortman 6'4" | 185 lbs | WR Colonia | 2026 State NJ might be one of the most underrated prospects in the class of 2026. The Rutgers-bound commit had some really impressive film at wide receiver. First, as a big bodied receiver Wortman is a hands catcher. Moreover, he has deceptive speed for somebody of his size. We see him gain the edge on play side linebackers when given jet sweeps. Although he is not necessarily quick, Wortman executes strong route fakes that get defenders to bite, while also playing from the slot, recognizing a defender’s leverage, and getting outside. Additionally, Wortman has a strong body. In his lower half we see him break tackles with ease; while up top he can shrug off defenders with equal ability. Lastly, he is excellent with 5050 vertical jump balls, using his hands to high point the ball extremely well.

RJ Wortman’s recruitment exploded over the final stretch of November, and it ended with a major in-state win for Rutgers. After rising quickly on multiple recruiting boards, Wortman chose to stay home and commit to the Scarlet Knights — a move that strengthens the program’s New Jersey footprint.
A key factor in his decision was his connection to assistant coach Eric LeGrand, a former Rutgers standout who also graduated from Colonia. That relationship helped build trust, but Wortman’s production is ultimately what pushed Rutgers to make him a priority.
Wortman delivered a spectacular senior season, leading New Jersey in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns — a true triple crown performance. His size, his ability to stretch the field, and his consistency in traffic made him one of the state’s most difficult receivers to defend. Moreover, he proved he could play both ways, contributing on defense and showing the competitiveness that coaches value.
Rutgers likely views Wortman as a high-upside athlete with the potential to develop into a versatile offensive weapon. His blend of length, physicality, and ball skills fits the mold of receivers who flourish in the Big Ten. Now, with Wortman staying home, it will be fascinating to see how quickly he assimilates into Power Five football and how he grows within the Scarlet Knights’ system.
Blessed to say I’m 100% committed to @RFootball ! Thank you to the Rutgers coaches, my family, friends, trainers and coaches for always supporting me! @GregSchiano @CoachSparber @EricJosephsRU @Coloniafootball @coachTRroarty @nextlvlculture pic.twitter.com/ri403IIcho

R.J. Wortman has quietly built one of the best seasons in the entire state of New Jersey. The 6’4”, 205-pound wideout led the state in receptions (77) and receiving yards (1,032), while ranking second in touchdowns (13) — numbers that speak for themselves. Despite the production, Wortman flew under the radar for most of the season, but college programs are starting to catch on.
Wortman recently earned an offer from Temple University, adding to a growing list that includes UMass, LIU, Central Connecticut, New Haven, Wagner, Stonehill, and the University of Maine, among others. The attention is well deserved. He’s not just a big-body receiver who wins on jump balls — he’s fluid, technical, and efficient in his routes. His ability to sink his hips, change direction, and separate at the top of routes is rare for his size.
What separates Wortman most is how he blends physicality with finesse. He tracks the ball naturally, makes contested catches look easy, and accelerates smoothly once he secures the ball. As a 2026 prospect, his recruitment is still unfolding, but with a breakout year like this, R.J. Wortman has cemented himself as one of New Jersey’s most complete and productive receivers.
After a great game day visit & conversation with @CoachKCKeeler , I am blessed to receive my second FBS offer from Temple University! AGTG ✝️@Coloniafootball @coachTRroarty @nextlvlculture @4QElite @CoachZar @WRTreezy @CoachAhmadTUFF pic.twitter.com/glQhCSsdbR
