PSR Big Camp Series, New Jersey: Running Backs, Volume III

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>On Saturday, May 10th, 2025 I was welcomed back for the third year in a row to cover&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/ScoutNickP">Coach Nick Pennisi</a>‘s&nbsp;<em>PSR Big Camp Series</em>&nbsp;hosted at Monroe High School in Monroe, New Jersey. As I have come to expect, this event was packed with participation, loaded with talent, and ran extremely well.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Different than other events, Pennisi opted to have three different check-in times, based on position groupings. This afforded me the opportunity to get a closer look at many of the prospects in attendance. Below are just some of my notes on the position group mentioned in this article's title.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Be sure to follow me on&nbsp;<a href="https://x.com/BrendanScoutsNJ"><strong>Twitter</strong></a>&nbsp;for the latest updates in New Jersey high school football.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:separator --> <hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" /> <!-- /wp:separator --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Making the trip up from deep in South Jersey - Absegami to be exact - [player_tooltip player_id='1476898' first='Logan' last='Simpson'] had a strong outting. Simpson sold his moves, both in the run game and pass game, extremely well. As a receiver, Simpson profiles as a very good safety valve as he extended his arms and used his hands to secure possession of the ball... With Terrell Mitchell having graduated, the tailback role at Somerville is open and [player_tooltip player_id='1515058' first='Justin' last='Bowen'] is anticipating getting a shot to fill those shoes. Bowen would benefit from playing with a lower pad level. Because he was a bit high up-top, Bowen was unable to make as sharp of cuts as I imagine that he would like.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Two Middlesex County prospects made the short trip to Monroe this weekend, the first being [player_tooltip player_id='402192' first='Anthony' last='Walker']. Walker, a 2026 tailback out of St. Joseph's in Metuchen, might be better suited as a true running back rather than one in a shorts-and-t-shirt camp setting. Given how the Falcons deploy their offense, expect him to be more of a run-first option. I was not encouraged by Walker's routes... Colonia's [player_tooltip player_id='1692640' first='Teron' last='Byrd'] is a prospect who is competing for touches in a crowded Patriots' backfield. In order for him to earn the lion's share of the carries, I implore Byrd to pick his feet up more. At camp I felt as though he was falling over them and also dragging them when he make fakes. Additionally, this will aid him in having more of an immediate burst.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I close out this article with a perplexing out of state prospect. Zymir Small out of Springfield Township in Pennsylvania was somewhat of an enigma. I thought that Small did not work tight enough to the cones during indy.
