On Saturday, May 10th, 2025 I was welcomed back for the third year in a row to cover Coach Nick Pennisi‘s PSR Big Camp Series hosted at Monroe High School in Monroe, New Jersey. As I have come to expect, this event was packed with participation, loaded with talent, and ran extremely well.

Different than other events, Pennisi opted to have three different check-in times, based on position groupings. This afforded me the opportunity to get a closer look at many of the prospects in attendance. Below are just some of my notes on the position group mentioned in this article's title.

Opening up is the first of two out-of-state prospects, Sam Surmandah. The Harriton defensive back has some promise, solid size (5'10" 162lbs) and thus upside. Although he did move well, I wish to see Surmandah high point the ball better... Hailing from Maryland was [player_tooltip player_id='1698019' first='Tyler' last='Owens']. Owens, out of Mount Zion Prep Academy, showed that he is a closer. From a trail technique, Owens closed any-and-all distance on a post. He was not only able to recover and compete for the ball, he actually intercepted it on one helluva play.

As [player_tooltip player_id='1692621' first='Jadiel' last='Azuri'] prepares to compete for a spot in Union City's defensive secondary, I expect a disciplined defender in man coverage. As he was lined up against his opponent, Azuri's eyes burned a hole through them - never focusing elsewhere. This allowed him to stay in strong position and allow just a smudge, if any, space on their routes... Speaking of eyes, [player_tooltip player_id='993106' first='Anthony' last='Dambrosio'] out of Holy Cross Prep did a great job of using his as well. Dambrosio is a name I recall covering during the season due to a few standout performances, and after seeing him compete live it is clear why. Dambrosio did an outstanding job of reading his man assignment's body through all phases of his route. As a result, the rising senior was never out of position and always in close quarters... If there is one thing Linden produces, it is athletic players. Rising junior [player_tooltip player_id='1672819' first='Kayden' last='Mcfarlane'] is no exception to this. I was only able to get a look at Mcfarlane during indy, but I left with the impression that he can get his hips around well. This bodes well for such an athletically-demanding position.
