A natural in coverage, Vargas-Smith shows a knack to be around the football, consistently disrupting passing lanes and forcing incompletions. His fluid backpedal allows him to maintain leverage without opening his hips prematurely, effectively eliminating the receiver’s ability to have a two-way go. Using his length to his advantage, he routinely gets a hand in late to break up passes. He also excels in pursuit, closing ground quickly and taking good pursuit angles to the football.
