SIOUX FALLS- We check-in for Part Two of our standouts edition from the Augie Prospect Camp as we look at seven more prospects that caught our eyes in Sioux Falls last Monday! [player_tooltip player_id="56461" first="Jaden" last="Witte"] | Wide Receiver/Tight End | Sioux Falls Christian (SD) | 2022 Jaden was a prospect in our Class of 2022 rankings, but he really outplayed his coverage from what I saw in one on drills. Predominantly a tight end, Jaden showed solid stamina and longevity on one particular play last Monday, which makes me believe he will get a substantial bump in our next update ranking. Jaden on tape is a project that is versatile as far as his position. He can play out wide or be a blocking Tight End inside. He doesn’t have burner speed or crafty footwork but is a prospect with some length at 6’3 that could be a red-zone threat or a dependable target when you need a first down. He also gets good pad level from some of the blocks I witnessed on his game tape. Jr Tape | Twitter [player_tooltip player_id="89291" first="Beau" last="Giblin"] | Defensive Back | Sioux Falls Jefferson (SD) | 2023 Beau lived up to being the #1 DB in the 2023 Class based on his performance last Monday. He showed a strong position for being one of the young defensive backs at the Augie Prospect Camp. He was also strong on his ball skills from the multiple reps I watched on 1on1s and had solid speed when closing in for the football. Beau’s tape from last season shows a similar skillset to what we saw last Monday but even more. He has excellent ball instincts and launches physical contact, especially while in high pursuit. I really like how well this young man can gobble up ball carriers on short-yardage situations and did it at a high rate against some of the best talent the Dakotas have to offer at tailback. He will need to work on his in pursuit speed a little bit based on where he came in on his 40-yard dash at Augustana, but Beau is still one of the most promising scholarship level prospects the Class of 2023 has to offer. So Tape | Twitter [player_tooltip player_id="116280" first="Camden" last="Dean"] | Quarterback | Lakeville South (MN) | 2022 The top pro agility performer of the day was Lakeville South QB prospect [player_tooltip player_id="116280" first="Camden" last="Dean"] who logged some excellent times at just over a 4.1 and just north of 4.0 in his second rep of the day. Dean is a two-way prospect for the Cougars that could be viewed as an athlete being his excellent skillset for both sides of the ball. At QB, Dean shows a quick trigger for releasing the football and has such active feet when he’s on the move that he can turn nothing plays into something quickly. Defensively, Dean is a physical corner with a solid range of motion with great timing to flip his body timely to get his head around the football and get physical while getting a handful of PBUs. Dean is a sleeper in the Class of 2022 with no offers yet, which surprised me based on his skillset. This young man’s time is coming as if I am a college recruiter; I would hammer the city of Lakeville if I am looking for prospects such as [player_tooltip player_id="116280" first="Camden" last="Dean"] as he certainly is a scholarship level talent. Jr. Tape | Twitter [player_tooltip player_id="119523" first="Maddox" last="Biever"] | Wide Receiver | Pipestone (MN) | 2022 Biever was another prospect that landed solid pro agility times in the 4.3 and 4.4 range on his two reps. I did get to watch his broad jump, and I really liked his launching ability as he jumped consistently 9+ feet on each attempt. In his junior film, Biever is a prospect that some solid agility between the tackles but can develop much more burst based on what I saw from his testing numbers at Augustana. He shows some solid flex defensively in his hips on his backpedal and good physicality when going up for the ball with a good vertical. Biever is another Arrows prospect I will repeat could be a solid small school prospect with a solid senior season in Pipestone. Jr. Tape | Twitter [player_tooltip player_id="56528" first="Jordan" last="Larsen"] | Offensive Line | Harrisburg (SD) | 2022 Larsen’s pad level was on point last Monday at the Augie Prospect Camp. He also showed from my eyes sound footwork in 1on1s. I also was impressed with his size (nearly 290 pounds) how well he ran the pro agility as 5.0 and 4.88. I typically don’t dive heavily into testing numbers with offensive linemen, but I thought those numbers were impressive for a hog molly prospect at Larsen’s size. Larsen did not have any game tape available, but after watching his junior tape, he shows that drive in his footwork I referenced as a pull blocker that can move with sound footspeed to be a great lead blocker for the Tigers. Larsen is versatile and can impact multiple defenders on any given play. Even on the defensive side of the ball, Larsen shows an elusiveness to his game that seems to have the muscle and speed to get to the ball carrier, especially the QB, as he logs plenty of QB hurries in his tape. It’s no surprise that Augustana offered Larsen after camp as his second Division II offer from the Northern Sun Conference. Jr Tape | Twitter [player_tooltip player_id="93090" first="Sam" last="Scholten"] | Wide Receiver | Brandon Valley (SD) | 2022 When I watched Scholten in the testing session, I noticed his consistency across the board. I saw that with my eyes, and when I went to the testing numbers after camp, it matched what I saw in person last week at the Augie Prospect Camp as he was as efficient on his first reps vs. his second reps, which is what I like to see! I also could tell with my brief conversation with this young man that Scholten is a very high character player as his body language is exactly what you should be looking for in a college prospect. When I got access to Scholten’s game film last year, the first thing I saw similar to so many Brandon Valley wide receivers and tight ends is his blocking ability. He is not the biggest kid on paper, but he still makes effective blocks in front of the ball that pays dividends to his teammates with the ball in their hands. With that blocking ability, it’s done with a solid point of contact and a focus on maneuvering the defender as far away from the ball carrier as possible. He also gets a good burst off the snap and has a good stop on his short routes, as that is where he was most utilized last season for the Lynx. Sam’s route-running can be described as crisp, and I see him having a more significant impact in his senior season. He was a recent stockriser in our Class of 2022 rankings bumping up several spots as well. Jr Tape | Twitter [player_tooltip player_id="116281" first="Reese" last="Turnbull"] | Defensive Line | Cloquet (MN) | 2022 Turnbull was a very strong competitor in darn near every 1on1 rep I watched last Monday at the Augie Prospect Camp. This young man made it to one of the last series from the defensive line group and had the grinder mentality to keep punching on the line. Turnbull got excellent pad level when I watched his tape as he can on the offensive line consistently drag guys well past the first level into the second level and has that mentality that will always block unit the whistle is blown. He has a physical level of attack defensively that has a quick shed to get the ball carrier within a brief timeframe. Reese came into Augustana as a defensive lineman, but I really do love his offensive line tape slightly more than his defensive line tape and feel that college programs should look at him more on the offensive side of the ball. Turnbull has one Divison III offer but should gather more interest over the summer and into the early Fall season as programs have to love his competitive edge and work ethic. Jr Tape | Twitter
