. He is clearly in the conversation for the #1 overall spot on the gridiron and is a D1 hoops recruit as well. Rankin is an “athlete” that would be an elite prospect as either a wide receiver or safety at the next level. Leaning toward being a pass catcher at the next level right now. Such an acrobatic pass catcher that makes absolutely incredible catches in the air. Game changer every time the ball is thrown his way. Prep Redzone caught up with Rankin to discuss his junior campaign.
“It went great. I was able to come in and take the team to the city championship. We gelled well as a team and it went decent.”
His recruitment is starting to come down the home stretch including a visit to ACC power.
“I am going on a visit to North Carolina on Friday and I should be committing in the next month or so.”
What is he excited for about this visit to Chapel Hill?
“I am looking forward to how I can fit in the offense and how they would use me. This will be my first time going down there. Get to see the campus and stuff. Meet the new coaches and coach Belichick. I am extremely excited to get there and meet him.”
He is in the middle of official visit season.
“I have taken Illinois. Going to North Carolina. I am looking to take Duke, Nebraska, and Kansas State.”
Are those the only schools still involved?
“No those are the schools that I have official visits planned. Other schools still in the mix are Northwestern, USC, and Oregon. I am still open.”
He also mentioned that he could take an official to USC in June. Illinois got the first important visit setting the tone.
“It was good. It always feels like home. The coaches are cool and we have a good relationship. Looking forward to seeing what it would be like there.”
They also have made it known that he can be on the hoops team when football season is over which has been a priority for Rankin for a while.
“I had got my first football offer from them. Coach Brad Underwood and I talked and he told me that I am a hoop so they said I could come do that too.”
He said that he plans on making a decision probably in June. It is definitely going to be before the season.
What is going to be most important to him in picking a school?
“Playing both sports. That has been my goal. If I can get that it would be a blessing. Also the campus and having a good relationship with all the coaches.”
