The latter hosted Brother Martin, Edna Karr and McDonogh 35 in the fourth week of action.
Here are a half dozen of the most notable performances, including at least one from each team.
Donovan Friloux — 5-11, 165 QB — Hahnville (2023)
Troy Kendrick Troy Kendrick 6'2" | 175 lbs | WR Hahnville | 2022 State LA was back in the mix this past week for the Tigers, and the boost for Friloux and the offense with that rising senior on one side and tall, talented rising junior Dakota Williams Dakota Williams 6'1" | 195 lbs | WR Hahnville | 2023 State LA on the other was noticeable. Hahnville moved the ball effectively in each contest with the 2023 quarterback able to spread targets around between the two Division-I talents and many of his other weapons running free underneath and across the field.
Corey Lambert Corey Lambert 6'1" | 195 lbs | DB Brother Martin | 2022 State LA Jr. — 6-1, 195 DB — Brother Martin (2022)
The rising senior may end up growing into more of an outside linebacker or hybrid role at the next level, based on some of his recent college visits, but his speed and instincts at his size currently make him one of the state’s best ball-hawking safeties patrolling the back end of the Crusaders’ defense and snatching interceptions, as he did in this outing.
Torey Lambert Torey Lambert 6'0" | 190 lbs | ATH Brother Martin | 2023 State LA — 6-0, 190 ATH — Brother Martin (2023)
The younger Lambert brother is transitioning more into his more likely long-term role at running back after working more heavily at cornerback as a sophomore this fall. And the smooth, speedy athlete looked great doing so this past Wednesday as a clear weapon out of the backfield comfortably and surely catching passes and then exploding upfield for big yards after the reception even in the touch setting.
Tyrus Morris — 5-10, 165 WR — McDonogh 35 (2023)
Another good week from the Roneagles’ standout pass-catcher. The previous week, Morris garnered his biggest reaction from the sideline on a jump-ball to the end zone he out-positioned and out-battled a defensive back to haul in for a score. This time around, the big moment came on a juke and quick cut after a shorter catch that shook the cornerback off his foot and onto the turf.
Michael Richard Michael Richard 5'11" | 165 lbs | DB Edna Karr | 2023 State LA — 5-11, 165 DB — Edna Karr (2023)
The rising junior hasn’t grabbed as many headlines or offers as teammate and classmate Ryan Robinson Jr. Ryan Robinson Jr. 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Edna Karr | 2023 State LA Jr. — or their friend Wallace Foster IV Wallace Foster IV 5'11" | 160 lbs | DB Warren Easton | 2024 State LA IV the grade behind them at rival Warren Easton — but he’s a reliable, intelligent defensive back (likely a nickel), who plays in position and tends to make the most of opportunities to capitalize on quarterback mistakes as he did on one early interception and came maybe just one more step from doing so on another.
AJ Samuel AJ Samuel 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Edna Karr | 2023 State LA — 6-0, 170 QB — Edna Karr (2023)
With Destyn Hill Destyn Hill 6'1" | 180 lbs | WR Edna Karr | 2021 State LA signed off to Florida State and Aaron Anderson Aaron Anderson 5'10" | 180 lbs | WR Edna Karr | 2022 State LA resting the week, the rising junior quarterback was still able to spread the ball around to his other receivers and keep drives moving. And perhaps just as impressive was his work with his backup when the Cougars spent most of the final matchup trying to provide some experience. Samuel looked like a coach on the field following the group and helping position the passer, the running back and their receivers.
