THE FREW FILE
[player_tooltip player_id="50210" first="Kade" last="Frew"]
POSITION: RB/Slot
CLASS: 2022
SCHOOL: Jacksonville Bolles
HEIGHT: 5-8
WEIGHT: 190
HEAD COACH: Matt Toblin
WHAT ARE COACHES MISSING: Going into last year’s 4A state final game against Fort Lauderdale Cardinal Gibbons, head coach Matt Dubuc was concerned with stopping standout running back [player_tooltip player_id="50210" first="Kade" last="Frew"].
In the week prior to the game, the Cardinal Gibbons’ head coach watched film over and over again – looing for ways to slow down one of Florida’s best backs.
While Dubuc’s team slowed down several opponents, including St. Thomas Aquinas, this task would not be easy. Like when he attended Cardinal Gibbons and then Texas Tech to play football and baseball, Dubuc saw so much of himself in Frew – and knew that the task would not be easy.
On the second play from scrimmage, Dubuc was right as the gifted runner dashed 60 yards for a score. But that was it.
The Chiefs scored 35 unanswered to hand Bolles a 35-21 loss and Frew, despite scoring twice in the game, never got untracked. But that was the only negative this quality talent had in 2020.
What this impressive student/athlete has accomplished the past two years is simply amazing. Not only is he one of the best running backs in Florida, but he is equally a 5-star in the classroom, which has opened up several avenues – even for those who believe that he may be too small.
Remember, this is a throwback football talent, who is blazing smart, knows where to run – and can give his team and edge – just like that.
Last season, he ran for 1,496 yards and 17 touchdowns despite missing games due to injury, averaging 6.9 yards per carry.
No matter where he attends college, this is a name that we will all be hearing about for years to come – and not all of it will be football related!
