In staying on top of the the best and the brightest quarterbacks in the state, I am always on the look out for guys flying under the radar. The guys playing on poor teams or who don't have much supporting talent. Players who backed up seniors or upper classmen. Guys playing on obscure or off-the-beaten-path programs.

The kids in those categories will always be at the top of my list when assessing talent, as that is basically my specialty; but there are a handful of other categories that I enjoy staying on top of as well, like the top D1 QB's, the best dual-threat magicians and the guys who make it rain footballs every Friday night to name a few.

In this report we are going to take a look at six supernova quarterbacks from the Wichita and immediate area, classified in the three categories mentioned above. Five of the six are 2026 QB's, with the lone '27 gunslinger being one of the top statistical quarterbacks in the state last fall.

So, without further adieu, let's take a fascinating look at some of the best QB's Wichita has to offer:

D1 Gunslinger QB's: one is already committed to KU, with the other starting to haul in D1-offers...

[player_tooltip player_id='585904' first='Jaylen' last='Mason'] , 6'3, 205, Wichita NW '26, the KU-commit once again put his talent on full display in giving everyone an idea why he has attracted so much D1 attention. He is that rare combination of prototype size, speed and athleticism who has started since he was a sophomore and has been developing into one of the most dangerous dual-threat quarterbacks in the state. Last fall he led his team into the playoffs and along the way ran and passed for 2,645 total yards and 33 total TDs. As a passer he completed 107 of 195 passes for 1,960 yards, a 55% completion percentage, 24 TDs and impressively only three interceptions along the way for a lofty 123 passer rating. He is also a strong runner in the ground game, seamlessly running the RPO or extending plays with his standout wheels. Word is already out, but I will put an exclamation point on it, this guy is getting ready to go off in 2025.

[player_tooltip player_id='1578939' first='Brayden' last='Myovela'] , 6'4, 205, QB, Maize, '26, was not on many scout's radar prior to the 2024 season, but he changed all that in a matter of a couple of games last fall. He has the kind of size and athleticism top programs are looking for. With his shotgun arm and effortless release to his size and speed extending plays, he is a handful for defenses trying to get a handle on his high-octane game. He has already developed an arsenal of throws, from off platform to different arm angles, when throwing on the move in either direction or under duress. Once he was solidified as the starter, he made quantum leaps along the way, completing 48 of 97 passes for just under 900 yards and 11 touchdown passes to only two picks for an impressive passer rating of 110. He also ran for another 500 yards, averaging 10 yards a carry and scored four times. This guy has megastar written all over him and is getting ready to light it up this fall.

Dual-Threat Destroyer QB's: there are a lot of good dual-threat dominators in the area, and then there are these two guys...

[player_tooltip player_id='1236247' first='Sam' last='Harp'] , 5'10, 180, Andale '26, is coming off a season when he led his team to the top of the mountain, an undefeated 3A state championship. It was sweet redemption, as the prior year Andale got knocked out of the playoffs for the first time in years. To an arch-rival no less. Working hard in the off season he bumped his bench to 300+ pounds and got his 40 down to a blazing 4.5 and then proceeded to go off in his junior year leading his team to an unblemished record. Along the way he ran and passed for just under 2,000 yards and piled up 34 touchdowns despite generally playing less than half the game due to blow outs. On the ground he was a powerhouse, picking up 1,057 yards on 101 carries, averaging 10+ yards per carry and scored 21 times. In the air he was deadly when teams tried to load the box and stop the Indian running attack, delivering 35 completions in 54 attempts for 813 yards, a 64% completion percentage and zero picks. He is also a dazzling return man who is a threat on every kick. This guy is going to burn it up this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1229066' first='Manny' last='Meyers'], 5'11, 180, Mulvane '26, he has been flying under the radar somewhat and was probably better known for being a baseball standout, but he changed all that after last fall. Besides being a multi-sport stud, he is an athletic game-breaker on the gridiron and played his best football coming down the home stretch. On the year he put up some of the top dual-threat quarterback numbers in the state as he ran and passed for 2,700+ yards and 32 touchdowns. He energized a Mulvane offense that got hot late in the season and did a lot of it through the air, completing 92 of 168 passes for 1,264 yards, a 55% completion percentage and only three picks. On the ground, he was even more impressive, as he shredded defenses all season, picking up 1,372 yards and scoring 19 times. He was also a ballhawk on defense, picking off three passes and was a dangerous return man, taking a punt back for a touchdown earlier in the year. This guy is going to blow the lid off in 2025.

Shock and Awe Air-Attack QB's: airing it out in Wichita, last fall these guys combined for 5K+ yards, 600+ passes, 85+ TDs...

[player_tooltip player_id='1522503' first='Zac' last='Zimmerman'] , 6'1, 175, Wichita Trinity, '27, is coming off an incredible sophomore season when he went from unknown starter to rising-star QB in a matter of months. This past fall he was statistically the top sophomore gunslinger in the state after leading the pack with just under 2,700 yards passing and 27 total touchdowns running and passing. And, he did it in only nine games. I have been super impressed with the poise and maturity of his game at a young age and his ability to make all the throws. His versatile arm was on display all last year, firing decisive strikes over the middle, zipping deep velocity balls or launching long touch passes down the seams. For the year he let it fly early and often, completing 194 passes in 389 attempts for a 67% completion percentage, and an elite-level 109 passer rating. Get ready for some serious fireworks this fall.

[player_tooltip player_id='1229077' first='Wade' last='Keller'] , 5'11, 175, QB, Sunrise Christian Academy, '26, is another local gunslinger who is coming off a high-flying junior season when he completed 142 passes out of 240 attempts for 2,171 yards, a 59% completion percentage and 45 touchdowns. He added 335 yards rushing and another 14 TD's to give him an eye-popping 59 touchdowns on the year. The dual-threat southpaw can throw from the pocket with fluid mechanics or fire quick strikes off platform or under pressure. He is very effective on the move going either direction extending plays and moving the chains. He is a versatile QB who can run the RPO or settle in the pocket and calmly let it rip. In the off-season he plays basketball and baseball when not training for an encore season. This guy is the real deal and is going to launch a big-time air attack this coming fall.

In conclusion, get these guys on your watchlist as they are getting ready to decimate defenses this fall. And, as always, let me know via DM on X if you run across any guys flying under the radar. Keep grindin'...
