It seems appropriate to continue our Spring season evaluations as the Fall season is slowly creeping up on us. This piece is part three of the Breakout Performance Series which stands to assist local athletes with their recruitment as well as to assist scouts and coaches with their evaluations. 2022 5’11 180 WR [player_tooltip player_id="90627" first="Josh" last="Gary"] – St. John’s Incoming Senior [player_tooltip player_id="90627" first="Josh" last="Gary"] has absolutely incredible speed. His hands are extremely elite, as his highlight tapes demonstrate, and it’s safe to say that he is already a next level receiver. Another special aspect of Gary’s game is his relationship with his quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="134896" first="Wyatt" last="Hagan"]. The two were a dynamic duo this past Spring and they were seemingly always on the same page when it mattered most. It’s clear that the St. John’s Cadets have more than enough fire power to bring home the WCAC title this upcoming season, and if [player_tooltip player_id="90627" first="Josh" last="Gary"] remains in their lineup then defending the Cadets’ offense will become a very difficult task. 2023 5’10 210 LB [player_tooltip player_id="146638" first="Rohan" last="Davy"] – St. John’s [player_tooltip player_id="146638" first="Rohan" last="Davy"] is one of the best overall open field tacklers in the entire DMV. He has dynamic covering skills as well which he utilizes a lot as a linebacker. The incoming Junior also possesses incredible run anticipation which puts his tackling prowess on full display. Davy is an incredibly high level division one recruit and he is certainly one of the best linebackers in the area. If [player_tooltip player_id="146638" first="Rohan" last="Davy"] and the entire St. John’s secondary can continue to have breakout performances then offenses across the DMV should be on notice. Watch out for [player_tooltip player_id="146638" first="Rohan" last="Davy"] and the Cadets. 2022 6’2 170 WR [player_tooltip player_id="90632" first="Carter" last="Phillips"] – Landon – Georgetown If there were an award for quickness in the DMV then it would no doubt go to Landon wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id="90632" first="Carter" last="Phillips"]. Phillips has absolutely unbelievable speed and agility. Given that Landon’s entire last season was canceled, his recent commitment to Georgetown shows that hard work in the offseason can really pay off if you push yourself like he did. The future Hoya is still not finished with his high school career, and there’s no question that he is capable of having a dominant season with the Bears this season. Every team in the IAC should matchup their most elite defensive back up against Carter Philips. He’s next level elite. 2022 6’1 230 LB [player_tooltip player_id="90556" first="Marquis" last="Atkins"] – St. Frances Academy [player_tooltip player_id="90556" first="Marquis" last="Atkins"] is a dominant force on defense and he is set to have a breakout season this Fall. St. Frances suffered a stunning loss to Good Counsel in their only game of the Spring season, however, during that game the Panther defense showed flashes of brilliance. Once Atkins has his hands on the ball carrier there is no breaking free, and this impeccable tackling will be showcased alongside other great tacklers like [player_tooltip player_id="90497" first="Jaishawn" last="Barham"] and [player_tooltip player_id="90499" first="Derrick" last="Moore"] once St. Frances commences their season. The Panther defense is sure to bring the fireworks whenever they’re on the field and [player_tooltip player_id="90556" first="Marquis" last="Atkins"] is a huge reason for their success. He will be an extremely valuable player at the collegiate level.
