Arkansas 2A Playoffs – Prospect Watch

The 2024 Arkansas High School Football playoffs begin today. The path to the state championship is more challenging than ever. Here are five prospects to watch during the playoffs in 2A.    [player_tooltip player_id='1542398' first='Ty' last='Tanksley'] is a talented freshman quarterback who has led his team to an undefeated 10-0 record. He displays solid footwork with good arm strength and velocity to hit all levels of the field with the ability to thread the needle. Tanksley showcases solid ball placement and anticipation, putting his receivers into YAC opportunities. He has the ability to make good and quick decisions post-snap. The young quarterback has the chance to do something that not many freshmen can do: lead his team to a state championship. He displays good foot speed, lateral agility, change of direction, and balance. Andrews showcases good footwork and fluidity in his backpedal to transition, sticking with his man while staying inside the hip pocket off breaks, resulting in no separation. Good read and react ability, not allowing any room for separation and arriving at the catch point to force a PBU or INT. He also has a sideline-to-sideline motor. In run support, he takes solid angles and will tackle in space. The sophomore defensive back is expected to maintain his strong performance in coverage on the outside. He exhibits solid post-snap vision and patience behind the line of scrimmage, allowing him to follow his blockers effectively. With a quick burst, he can shoot through gaps in the defense. Williams has a strong lower body, which contributes to his very good contact balance, leg drive, and pad level, enabling him to break tackles and advance upfield past the second level. He displays good initial quickness off the snap, demonstrating good pad level, hand placement, and leg drive, which allows him to create leverage and drive defenders back to the second level. He excels in both combination and base blocks, easily displacing defenders. On the defensive side, he consistently explodes off the line of scrimmage, penetrating into the backfield. He gains leverage underneath to push his opponents back toward the quarterback or ball carrier. Williams can generate pressure by bullrushing and quickly shedding blockers with his use of hands. He is an athletic player with good foot speed and a strong football IQ. Ware showcases good read-and-react ability, quickly attacking downhill in the running game while staying square with good pad level. He uses effective angles and upper arm strength to shed blocks and make plays at the line of scrimmage or in the backfield. Ware has a sideline-to-sideline motor, along with the physicality and speed to shoot gaps, make plays in the backfield, and chase down ball carriers. He is a solid open-field tackler with good technique and pad level. In coverage, he exhibits a strong understanding of both zone and man principles, keying the quarterback's eyes and reacting to arrive at the catch point. His solid change of direction and lateral agility allow him to transition through assignments and stay with his man effectively.
