Prospect Matchup: Top KC Area Games Week 5

<p>Here we go ladies and gentlemen. The second half of the 2024 regular season is just hours away from kickoff, and the stakes are about to get higher with playoffs around the corner. Chilly fall weather will start to settle in and defense will begin to play a key factor as teams jostle for playoff seeding. League title races across the Kansas City area are sure to get interesting down the stretch as well.</p>   <p>These three matchups in particular shape up to be exciting league games that could have implications down the road. Two are taking place just on the outside of the city, and one will be right in the heart of <em>Kansas City, Kansas</em>. If you're out and about Friday evening, consider checking out one of these games.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><span style="text-decoration: underline">Shawnee Mission East (6A) 3-1 vs. Gardner-Edgerton (6A) 4-0</span></h2>   <p>This <em>Sunflower League</em> matchup looks to be one of the premier games throughout KC and surrounding counties during Week 5. The SME Lancers have proven to be a gritty squad this season, and are riding high after three straight wins. On the other side, reigning 6A state champion Gardner-Edgerton, has maintained their status as an elite Class 6A program through their first four games. </p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><em>Prospects to Watch</em></h2>   <p>With two run heavy offenses colliding in this one, defense will be very important. Two defenders to keep an eye on will be <strong>Kyler Schuessler</strong> (Class of ‘25) of SME and [player_tooltip player_id='1115476' first='Kaleb' last='Dewey'] (Class of ‘25) of GE. Schuessler has 13 total tackles and three tackles for loss through four games, and Dewey is a rising linebacker drawing interest from multiple collegiate programs.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><span style="text-decoration: underline">Atchison (4A) 3-1 vs. Washington (5A) 4-0</span></h2>   <p>It's not often we highlight games from the <em>Meadowlark Conference</em>, but this matchup between the Atchison Phoenix and the Washington Wildcats should be a good one. Both teams have picked up some impressive wins thus far, and their defenses have been dialed in.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><em>Prospects to Watch</em></h2>   <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1373022' first='Miles' last='Greenly'] (Class of ‘25) of Atchison and <strong>Shon Williams </strong>(Class of ‘26) of Washington are two defensive studs sure to make plays during Week 5. Greenly has 32 total tackles and two sacks through four games, and Williams has posted 19 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, and four sacks.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><span style="text-decoration: underline">Spring Hill (5A) 4-0 vs. Ottawa (4A) 3-1</span></h2>   <p>Our third must-see game of Week 5 has been a one sided rivalry in recent years. However, this upcoming matchup between Spring Hill and Ottawa has the potential to be an exciting <em>Frontier League</em> game. Spring Hill is looking to stay unbeaten and keep pace with Louisburg in the standings. Meanwhile, Ottawa will try to rebound after falling to Eudora in Week 4.</p>   <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><em>Prospects to Watch</em></h2>   <p>When these two squads face off, it's without question that <strong>Patrick Stumpff</strong> (Class of ‘25) of Spring Hill and [player_tooltip player_id='1113457' first='Nate' last='Sims'] (Class of ‘26) of Ottawa will be two of the best players on the field. These two prospects will be relied on heavily, and are capable of making some serious noise.</p>
