Brief Recap

All the rain and slippery conditions couldn't stop Green Hill from remaining undefeated as they traveled north to defeat Gallatin, 26-13 in what was a much needed inner-region victory. From start to finish, conditions made things difficult for both teams but the Hawks were able to find a formula that worked for them and that was running the ball with [player_tooltip player_id='964976' first='Kannon' last='Burroughs'], [player_tooltip player_id='1102958' first='Nick' last='Owens, Jr'] and sophomore Zach Cartwright. That trio did the damage on Friday evening that pushed the Hawks to victory while receiving good play up front from their defensive line.

After giving up a first series touchdown, the Green Hill defense buckled down the rest of the way, led by [player_tooltip player_id='1106232' first='Brayden' last='Flakoll'], Luka Nash and the defensive line that continued to break through the Green Wave offensive line to make plays in the backfield. Gallatin struggled to do much of anything on offense. Especially with the passing game nullified by the weather, the Green Wave had to lean on their rushing attack and it wasn't up to par on this night. They scored a late touchdown when things were settled but overall, this was another stellar performance from a defense that is proving to be one of the best in the state.

This may not have been the prettiest of wins but it's a win nonetheless. Green Hill will take it and use the film to develop further and get better. For the Green Wave, this is another hurdle they must get past. It's been an up and down year thus far for Gallatin but postseason play is still in reach but they must figure something out and soon. This win also pushed the Hawks closer to a region title, which should square them up in a few weeks with rival Mt. Juliet to compete for that championship.

The difference maker in this victory was Burroughs and his ability to run through the Green Wave defense. The Hawks junior quarterback was a warrior Friday night that did everything he could to help his team win from running the football to making a few key passes that extended drives. His rushing was the X-Factor however as Burroughs ran for over 140 yards on the night, which is impressive considering how damp the field was. It's been a breakout year thus far for Burroughs as he is establishing himself as a Top Ten prospect at his position for the #TN2026 class. His play the remainder of the year will be critical towards the Hawks chances at winning the region and making a deep playoff run.

Producing a rushing score on the night, Cartwright had himself a strong showing versus the Green Wave due to his balance, strength and deceptive speed into the open field. When this sophomore back was able to get his feet under him, the Gallatin defense had a hard time dealing with Cartwright. Even though he may be undersized, Cartwright runs much bigger with the ability to break the big one and Gallatin received a good dose of that in the Hawks commanding win.

The Green Wave offensive line could not block Nash in this matchup. The Hawks junior was dominant on Friday evening where he consistently played in the Gallatin backfield, stuffing the run and putting pressure on the quarterback. His work up front was outstanding stuff as he showed game maturity from understanding how to take angles and maneuver himself towards the ball. This might be the breakout performance for Nash that pushes his game to another level and becomes the team's top pass rusher the remainder of the season.

Harris was a guy I really focused on in this game as the conditions provided an opportunity for the big men up front to have good or bad performances. Well for Harris, his performance was stellar as I watched him move people with ease while displaying excellent footwork and an athletic, explosive lower base. The Hawks junior handles left tackle for his team because he's the most athletic lineman they have but his future in college fits best inside where he can maul people while also providing good pass protection.

(Ath) [player_tooltip player_id='1111030' first='Jeremiah' last='Williams'] - Gallatin: Several occasions throughout the night, Williams flashed big play abilities that could have been utilized with better weather conditions. His speed was negated by the rain but he still found enough juice to get past the Hawks defense multiple times, displaying why he could be the team's top college prospect.

(Ath) [player_tooltip player_id='1102958' first='Nick' last='Owens, Jr'] - Green Hill: A versatile weapon for his Hawks offense, Owens, Jr made a few big plays on Friday night that helped keep drives alive both through the air and on the ground. This Green Hill senior is well built physically, which makes me think he's a running back in college but Owens, Jr is an athletic guy that does a variety of things on the field and that skill set was needed in the Hawks road win over Gallatin.

(DL) [player_tooltip player_id='1106232' first='Brayden' last='Flakoll'] - Green Hill: Joining Nash in the Green Wave backfield on Friday night was this senior D-lineman that made several big plays while flashing good burst and explosion in the team's region win over Gallatin. What I liked most about Flakoll was his motor and willingness to cause havoc. Conditions were tough but Flakoll played above it and performed very well.

(DE) Joshua Johnson - Gallatin: Even though it was a struggle for the Green Wave defense, Johnson was one guy that stood out to me as he was the lone performer that provided some disruptive plays. Sporting a strong upper body, Johnson made a few plays in the Hawks backfield that slowed down drives. He also flashed a few times dropping off the edge to make plays in space. It was a solid performance from Johnson within a tough game for his team.

‘27 (S) [player_tooltip player_id='1368155' first='Will' last='Butler'] - Green Hill: This Hawks sophomore sealed the win on Friday evening with a pick six in the 3rd quarter that was a back breaker for Gallatin. His interception extended the Green Hill lead and pretty much put the game away. Butler is having a strong season up to this point and building his stock as a potential top safety target for the #TN2027 class.
