Continue ReadingMississippi has always been known for it’s great trench players. Fortunately, that trend continues this year with the class of 2022 on the horizon. Our initial rankings showed a lot of guys with a ton of talent, but since then, we have continued to discover even more!
The No. 1 spot remains unchanged. Listing offers from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Florida State, and Auburn among others, Gautier’s Bryson Hurst Bryson Hurst 6'6" | 320 lbs | OL Gautier | 2022 State MS has been one of the most highly sought after prospects in the entire state. Hurst has dominated the camp scene so far and has competed in off season power lifting to top things off. With Gautier switching to an air raid offense, Hurst will produce a ton of film in pass protection this upcoming season. One of the better offensive linemen in the southeast will have a tough decision to make after his senior season.
Carter Edwards Carter Edwards 6'6" | 275 lbs | OL Presbyterian Christian | 2022 State MS checks in at the No. 2 spot. Edwards has had an eventful spring, taking unofficial visits by himself to Mississippi State and scheduling an official this next month with Louisville. Edwards has the frame and size to be a starting tackle on either side at the next level. He is athletic in space and moves with good quickness. Adding offers from Tulane, Dartmouth, and Princeton, it is clear that Edwards has had a great semester off the field as well. Look for this guy to continue blowing up as the summer progresses.
After committing to Florida Atlantic, Wil Saxton Wil Saxton 6'4" | 325 lbs | OL Benton Academy | 2022 State MS ’s recruitment hasn’t slowed down at all. Saxton checks in at No. 3 in our rankings, but is an extremely talented player with Power 5 upside to him. Saxton was named the offensive line MVP at the Underarmour All American camp earlier this spring and has stood out in 1v1s. There’s just a certain kind of nastiness he plays with that doesn’t come around very often. Saxton has added offers from Utah State, UAB, and Marshall since committing. FAU will have to put some work in to making sure that Saxton doesn’t get swayed away by a big program by the end of his senior season.
Coming in at No. 4, Oak Grove’s Klabron Pollard Klabron Pollard 6'4" | 270 lbs | OL Oak Grove | 2022 State MS has been a prospect that has added a bunch of new offers this offseason. Pollard has collected many Group of Five offers, and has recently gained interest from the Ole Miss Rebels. Pollard’s versatility is ultimately what makes him such a unique lineman. He is capable of playing any of the interior positions, but also started left tackle last season. Watch for him to blow up some camps this off season. Pollard is another player that could be expecting his first Power 5 offer very soon.
To top off the top 5, newcomer Cameron Pascal Cameron Pascal 6'4" | 280 lbs | OL Union | 2022 State MS makes the spot. The Union lineman was a guy that we missed out on the first go around, but discovered throughout the spring period. Pascal is a nasty interior player with the strength to dominate anybody across from him. He’s best fit to play in a heavy run centric offense. Pascal has offers from Arkansas State, South Alabama, and ULL among others. Don’t expect him to slow down anytime soon, as he looks to be going to several camps this summer. Really exciting player especially in the run game.
It’s hard not to include the twin brothers Kamron Barnes Kamron Barnes 6'5" | 325 lbs | OL Adams County Christian | 2022 State MS and Kyron Barnes Kyron Barnes 6'4" | 295 lbs | OL Adams County Christian | 2022 State MS in the rankings as well. These are two guys with NFL size and great athleticism. The duo committed to Southern Mississippi shortly after receiving offers from USM, and have maintained their commitments while earning other offers. These are two guys that could easily bounce into the top 5 spots during the season.
A very talented offensive line group continues to grow here in Mississippi! Stay tuned for the next edition of rankings right before the season starts!
