1. Chernet Estes Chernet Estes 6'0" | 170 lbs | DB Lake Travis | 2022 State TX – Lake Travis High School (Austin, TX)
Estes leads the defensive backs in Central Texas in Prep Redzone’s Class of 2022 rankings and for good reason. Based on his tape, he is able to read a play before it happens, able to stop the run off of the edge before it even starts. On top of that, his special team coverage is excellent and he has great agility to make the tackle both in special teams and in the secondary. Estes shows off a lot of talent and since Lake Travis has two outstanding defensive backs, the secondary will be almost unstoppable.
2. Derrick Johnson Derrick Johnson 5'11" | 190 lbs | DB Lake Travis | 2022 State TX – Lake Travis High School (Austin, TX)
Johnson has received multiple offers including from Air Force, Army, Colorado State, Columbia and Dartmouth. He finished the season with 46 total tackles, 19 solo tackles, four tackles for a loss, four pass breakups and one sack. Much like Estes, Johnson is also able to read a run play before it develops and is excellent on the return game for special teams play. He has great speed and agility but is also able to square up with wide receivers who block him on run plays. Johnson is a great player overall and can fit in several positions on the field.
3. Alan Caracheo Alan Caracheo 5'10" | 180 lbs | DB Cornerstone Christian | 2022 State TX – Cornerstone Christian High School (San Antonio, TX)
Caracheo also has a few offers from Army, Liberty and Navy. In 2019, he received second-team all-district honors while he was with Judson High School in Converse, TX. According to his Hudl, he finished last season with 78 total tackles, four interceptions, five pass breakups, four forced fumbles, nine tackles for a loss and two touchdowns. Caracheo is a ball hawk by definition, able to keep track of the ball in the air and also make spectacular catches. He is able to even outstretch his arms up over the receivers going for the same ball. Caracheo is a defensive back any team would want in their secondary but Cornerstone Christian will enjoy having him for his senior season.
