The National Preps Showcase comes to Maryland this Saturday, and over 200 prospects are looking to put on a show. Part One will be focusing on the offensive side of the ball. Here are the players to watch for during the showcase. Quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="134898" first="Ashton" last="Snelsire"], Decatur, 6’3" 210lbs, 2022 Coming off an impressive 7-game junior spring season (1714 yds, 23 TDs, 3 INTs), Ashten brings a lot of momentum into the camp circuit. He is an athletic QB that has an above-average arm. He makes throws outside the numbers with ease. And keeps his receivers out of harm's way with very good ball placement. Saturday is set up for Ashten to have a great day and continue the momentum. [player_tooltip player_id="90649" first="Noah" last="Brannock"], Calvert Hall, 6000 192lbs, 2023 With only two games this fall, Noah is coming into Saturday with a lot of interest. Another athletic QB, he can change direction quickly and has more vertical quickness than some of the other QBs. This ability forces defenses to be careful about bringing pressure. Still a young passer, Noah has a great opportunity Saturday to show his development going into the fall season. Runningback [player_tooltip player_id="90601" first="Michael" last="Craig"], North Point, 5’8" 170lbs, 2022 While Michael did not have any games this spring, Saturday provides the chance to remind people of his ability. The top traits that stand out are his speed and elusiveness. His speed is not limited to straight-line, it is also about getting in and out of his cuts. He does not lose any speed when making cuts and eluding defenders. He was a problem for defenders in 2019 and, with no spring season, he will ready to put on a show this Saturday. Zimere Handy, Decatur, 5’8" 165lbs, 2022 Zimere was the #1 target for Decatur during the spring season and made the most of it. Accounting for 529 yards and 10 touchdowns, his playmaking ability was on full display. He is a great runner with the ball in his hands. His great change of direction made him a nightmare in the open field. Also, he made the defense pay when they used off-coverage. Saturday will be a great chance for him to showcase his ability during the drill portion of the showcase. Wide Receiver [player_tooltip player_id="136033" first="Jordan" last="Scarbrough"], St. Mary’s Ryken, 5’10" 185lbs, 2022 Coming off a great spring, Jordan holds multiple FBS offers and should be seeing more in the months to come. What stood out the most was his route running. Mainly a slot WR, Jordan showed he has an understanding of the nuances of route running. He consistently got himself open and has great hands to where you do not see him drop many passes. I had the opportunity to see him against Good Counsel this spring, and Jordan was one of the players that popped off the field. He should shine during the testing and drills during Saturday's showcase. [player_tooltip player_id="90630" first="Kolt" last="Pearce"], Gilman, 6'7" 200lbs, 2022 Kolt is a monster on the outside for Gilman. At 6'7" he will always be a mismatch for defensive backs and linebackers. He moves incredibly well for someone his size playing wide receiver. He is a vertical threat for the offense and can high-point any throw that is in his area code. So far Kolt has dominated this summer circuit, and his brand continues to grow among college coaches. Saturday will be another chance to build on this momentum and showcase his receiving ability. Offensive Line [player_tooltip player_id="127778" first="Lennon" last="Cox"], Wicomico, 6’3" 275lbs, 2022 Lennon was a highlight reel of nasty during the spring season for Wicomico. The two things that stood out were his physicality and hand quickness. Every other clip is him finishing his opponent into the ground. These were not finishes where the lineman gets away with a hold. He shows quick hands to win inside position, and he knows how to use leverage against his opponent. This is where the wrestling background shines. Saturday is a great chance to continue momentum on the recruiting trail.
