The Prep Redzone New Jersey Class of 2022 prospect rankings have undergone its first update of the year. We reset the table and identify who some of the top prospects in New Jersey. Some teams played anywhere from one to nine games in a 2020 season that was severely affected by COVID-19. There were athletes who could put up those attention-grabbing statistics while there were others who were not. Therefore, our dive into the 2022 rankings will feature the prospects that have made a name for themselves on the field and/or in recruiting. We look forward to adding more athletes to the rankings when they’re updated in September.

THE TOP TEN DOESN’T CHANGE TOO MUCH

The top ten didn’t undergo too much of a change this time around. In fact, the only “major” change to the top then is offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="27960" first="Jacob" last="Allen"] becoming the No. 1 prospect in New Jersey. [player_tooltip player_id="27959" first="Keon" last="Sabb"], the previous No. 1, now attends IMG Academy in Florida. Tight end [player_tooltip player_id="140786" first="Trent" last="McGaughey"] makes his debut in the rankings at No. 10. He’s certainly a high riser after not even being listed as a top prospect during the last update. I have to believe that was an innocent oversight.

QUARTERBACK RANKINGS DEBATE?

Steve Angeli takes over the No.1 quarterback spot in our rankings. We like [player_tooltip player_id="27962" first="Peter" last="Delaportas"] a lot but feel that Angeli and [player_tooltip player_id="27973" first="Devin" last="Kargman"] had better junior seasons than Delaportas on the field. Will that change after camp season? That remains to be seen. Devin Leary, along with Kargman, are quarterbacks we evaluated in person within the last several weeks. Kargman has gone from No. 15 to No. 7 in our latest rankings. He has helped Next Level Greats, a top national 7v7 travel team program, win several tournaments over the past few months.

OTHER NOTABLES RISERS

Defensive back, [player_tooltip player_id="140787" first="Thomas" last="Amankwaa"] makes his Prep Redzone rankings debut at the No. 13 slot. Amankwaa received his first Power 5 offer back in late December. He’s a ballhawk on the defensive side of the ball and a playmaker on the defensive side of the ball. His ability to affect the game on both sides of the ball make him one of the Top 15 players in the state. [player_tooltip player_id="27980" first="Davison" last="Igbinosun"], a defensive back, jumped up ten slots from No. 22 to No. 12. Igbinosun, like Amankwaa, is another defensive back who is also a playmaker on offense.

THE PRICE IS RIGHT
Defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id="27983" first="Q’yaeir" last="Price"] has improved his stock since the last rankings update. Price cracks the top 15 at No. 11 after previously being ranked No. 25. He’s an absolute beast coming off the edge at the defensive end position. He may not have the ideal height (6-foot-3), but his quickness, technique, and power make you forget about his height. The kid can flat out play.
