Week 1 Scrimmage Notables: NW/N/W

<p>The 2024 season is here. Last week a handful of teams in our coverage Area got their season started with the first of two weeks of preseason scrimmages. Most games are limited to no special teams, varsity only playing 2 quarters and in some cases the QBs are untouchable but it gives the teams a chance to hit someone with a different jersey for a change. </p>   <p></p>   <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1637205' first='Carson' last='Callihan'] - 2025 RB Fannin County</strong></p>   <p>The 5'11 200 senior had a very good game Friday night. He had 9 carries for 125 yards with 3 TDs vs 3A Pickens County. Multipurpose back that has the physicality to get you short yards and the speed to take it to the house, like he showed in the scrimmage, if he gets to the 2nd Level. </p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/carson_callihan/status/1820510630576603619 </div></figure>   <p><strong> [player_tooltip player_id='1637224' first='CJ' last='Gray'] - 2025 ATH Temple</strong></p>   <p>Gray is known for his work out of the backfield, where he rushed for over 1000 yards last season, but Friday he showed his versatility. He did a great job catching the ball out of the backfield where he had several receptions with big YAC and a TD. On defense he had a couple of INTs, one where he had to close space and made a leaping one hand grab. Gray received a Reinhardt offer earlier this Spring and we feel like he is one of the best "under the radar" athletes in our Area. </p>   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/CJGray03_ </div></figure>   <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='262739' first='JR' last='Harris'] - 2027 QB Central</strong></p>   <p>If you follow Prep Redzone you know how high our scouts are on this Sophomore QB. Has great poise and skill in the pocket, especially for a younger guy. Went 10/13 for 201 yards and 2 TDs during the varsity portion of the scrimmage v Heard Co. Great leader on the field that can play multiple positions for you. He looked good in the limited varsity portion of Friday's scrimmage knocking heads off as usual. The 6'3 270 RG is quick and nimble up front and is a road grader in the high flying Hornet offense. He was covered well but was able to go up and over the defender and haul the catch in. Once he had the ball in his hands he turned the jets on. He threw for 293 yards and 3 TDs in just 3 quarters of play. Athletic dual threat QB that is just now popping on to everyone's radar.
