Yesterday, we evaluated the top four wide receivers in our rankings for the Class of 2022 in Indiana. Today, we will take a look at the next three. All four of these prospects are ranked in the top 70 in the state, which should give some indication as to how deep the talent pool at wide receiver runs in Indiana. These are four standouts who are ready to take the next step. All four are capable of doing big things at the next level. [player_tooltip player_id="98013" first="Cannon" last="Melchi"], 6’0, 165 pounds, West Lafayette [player_tooltip player_id="98013" first="Cannon" last="Melchi"] is a genuine playmaker. Melchi does extremely well in the screen game and running other short routes. Melchi is tremendous with the ball in his hands. He immediately turns up field and picks up extra yards. Melchi also shows an impressive ability to break tackles as well as the ability to elude defenders. He can be impactful running jet sweeps. Melchi is very effective when he is lined up in the slot, but he can also be impactful when lined up in others spots on the field. [player_tooltip player_id="98013" first="Cannon" last="Melchi"] is an extremely versatile player who can hurt a defense in many different ways. [player_tooltip player_id="98058" first="Nate" last="Anderson"], 6’0, 175 pounds, Homestead [player_tooltip player_id="98058" first="Nate" last="Anderson"] is a player who I can see climbing up the ranking by the end of the year. Anderson racked up over 1,100 receiving yards for the Homestead Spartans in 2020. Anderson has good route-running ability and he can easily break away from defenders. Anderson shows incredible athleticism and versatility. He has a lot of speed and he also has the strength to win contested throws. His ability to win a 50-50 ball allows for teams to always feel confident throwing the ball Anderson’s way. He can be lined up both in the slot as well as on the outside. Anderson is also dangerous when lined up as the wildcat quarterback. On top of the standard offensive plays that he can excel at, Anderson is somebody who could have certain packages designed for him. [player_tooltip player_id="98058" first="Nate" last="Anderson"] is a player who can line up anywhere on the field and make big plays happen. College coaches need to take a trip to Fort Wayne to see [player_tooltip player_id="98058" first="Nate" last="Anderson"] play in person. [player_tooltip player_id="98063" first="Rocco" last="Ciocca"], 6’3, 195 pounds, Bishop Dwenger [player_tooltip player_id="98063" first="Rocco" last="Ciocca"] is another threat on what is an already loaded offense at Bishop Dwenger. Ciocca is 6’4 and he uses his size very well. Ciocca is a very physical receiver who can go up and win a 50-50 ball consistently. He is really good at finishing the catch through tight coverage. Ciocca also shows the ability to run all of the routes in the deep, intermediate and underneath areas on the field. Ciocca also has the strength to hold on to the catch while taking a hit, something that is crucial at the next level. Ciocca has good body control near the sideline and he can tap his toes when needed to complete a catch. [player_tooltip player_id="98063" first="Rocco" last="Ciocca"] is exactly the kind of receiver that would be the perfect fit in today’s game. All of these three outstanding student-athletes have the ability to be stars at the next level. All three are set to have big time Senior seasons this fall. I will continue with this look at the state’s top wide receivers tomorrow. Indiana has such a great class at this position. While some things may be uncertain about the 2021 season, one thing that is for sure is that there is the potential for a lot of points to be scored in Indiana this year.
