The Class 3A spring season saw Socorro, St. Michael’s and Tohatchi finish with unbeaten records, with Hope Christian and Cuba registering just one loss. The fall season promises plenty of spirited competition.
Here are 10 Class 3A players we’re looking forward to watching in the fall:
Lucas Coriz Lucas Coriz 6'2" | QB St. Michael's | 2022 State NM , St. Michael’s: Coriz led St. Michael’s to a 3-0 record this spring, directing a high-powered offense that scored 155 points in three games. The Horsemen believe they have – I’ll say it – the horses to make a lot of noise in Class 3A this fall.
Cayden Walton Cayden Walton 5'9" | 180 lbs | RB Raton | 2023 State NM , Raton: For a talented running back like Walton with next level aspirations, the junior season is the most important. In other words, on the heels of a sensational freshman campaign in 2019 (1,907 rushing yards) and a covid shortened campaign this spring (664 yards), it’s go time for Walton.
Dylan Quartieri Dylan Quartieri 6'1" | QB Raton | 2022 State NM , Raton: As if the heated Raton-St. Michael’s rivalry needed any more fuel, we now present the question sure to stir the passions of fans of both teams: Who is the better QB, Coriz or Quartieri? The latter stated his case this spring by throwing for 486 yards and 7 TDs.
Jordan Armijo Jordan Armijo 5'6" | 145 lbs | RB Socorro | 2022 State NM , Socorro: The Socorro Warriors are 17-2 over the past two seasons, including a perfect 5-0 mark this spring. Armijo is a big reason why. The Warriors went 11-2 and reached the 3A state championship game in 2019 when Armijo totaled 588 yards and five touchdowns in 71 carries.
Daymon Lujan Daymon Lujan 5'10" | 165 lbs | RB St. Michael's | 2022 State NM , St. Michael’s: The Horsemen only played three games this spring but Lujan made the most of his opportunities, teaming with Coriz and Lucas Montoya Lucas Montoya 6'0" | LB St. Michael's | 2021 State NM to give St. Michael’s a three-headed monster.
Damian Gallegos, West Las Vegas: We didn’t see Gallegos or WLV this spring because the Las Vegas School District opted out of the spring season. Gallegos rushed for 773 yards and 8 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2019 when WLV finished 7-5 and reached the quarterfinals of the 3A playoffs.
Juan Fuentes Juan Fuentes 5'11" | ATH Dexters | 2022 State NM , Dexter: Fuentes had 175 rushing yards and 3 TDs to go along with a team-high 11 receptions in the spring for the Demons. He also played a little quarterback, completing 5-of-7 passes for 30 yards.
James Jenkins James Jenkins 6'0" | WR Hope Christian | 2022 State NM , Hope Christian: Jenkins emerged as one of the top young receivers in the Albuquerque Metro area in 2019 when he caught 28 passes for 555 yards and 8 touchdowns as a sophomore. He continued to excel this spring. Jenkins is on the cusp of a breakout year.
Jeremiah Terrazas Jeremiah Terrazas 6'0" | 290 lbs | OL Hatch Valley | 2022 State NM , Hatch Valley: The guys in the trenches need some love too, and Terrazas is one of the best linemen in Class 3A. If he wants, he’ll play at the next level.
Matthew Quartieri Matthew Quartieri 6'3" | 215 lbs | WR Raton | 2022 State NM , Raton: The brother of Raton QB Dylan Quartieri Dylan Quartieri 6'1" | QB Raton | 2022 State NM is listed at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds. He had 17 receptions for 213 yards and 1 TD in the spring. He’s another key piece in what should be a high-scoring Raton offense.
