Deonte Ellington
About Deonte
Expert Analysis
Tyler Graham | Prep Redzone Scout
Deonte was doing his thing once again on Sunday. Touchdowns, interceptions, you name it and he was doing it. His rare speed make him such a versatile 2-way player. Defensively, he has great closing speed and fluid hips, so even when receivers seem open, they’re not. He baited QBs into throwing at “open” receivers, and then accelerated to the ball. Offensively, he could take a short check down for a big chunk play thanks to his elusiveness. An all-around day for Ellington, that was nothing short of impressive.

Deonte Ellington Deonte Ellington 5'8" | WR Detroit MLK | 2026 State MI is a kid who has received a significant bump in our rankings. Last season at Detroit King, he was able to be fairly productive in his opportunities and show off a solid amount of potential.
Ellington is extremely dangerous out of the slot with his ability to run whip routes, slants and comebacks. He also has a smooth release and is able to get behind the defense on go-routes. This season he will likely be a larger focal point in the offense and will be able to show off his full repertoire.

Deonte earns a bump, largely because I’ve heard a lot about how he’s improved over the past year. Should be a good prospect, even though he’s undersized.
Strengths
- Route running (when he wants to)
- Speed
- Open field playmaking
Weaknesses
- Contact balance
- Not elite in many areas
- Questionable effort
- Bad effort / route running on several plays. I know he can run better routes.
Need to watch a Junior season highlight tape at the very least. I’ve seen Deonte before. I know he’s a very talented athlete. Easily has a D2 floor. Just a matter of if he’s willing to do the things requited to become an excellent college football player.
