Choctaw Team Camp Report

In this report, we're taking a look some of the players that stood out to us during the hour that we spent at that camp. Friday morning was a busy one for us as we also had camp visits at Harrah and Carl Albert. Stay locked in to Prep Redzone Oklahoma for looks at those reports as well. In this breakdown, we have a good mix of players that we've known about for a while along with some new faces that could and should be impact players for their respective teams this fall.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='479395' first='Braven' last='McConnell'] - 2025 Linebacker - Choctaw</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Choctaw 2025 linebacker [player_tooltip player_id='479395' first='Braven' last='McConnell'] is the first of several standouts from the home team Yellowjackets on Friday morning. McConnell didn't see as much action as the other two because of the way the schedule worked but from what we did see of him in person, we were really impressed. He is a very disruptive linebacker and looks like he's gotten a lot bigger in the last 12 months. Now, that's not entirely surprising considering the genetics. His older brother Cade was a star OL and signed with Minnesota a few years ago. Going off what we saw on Friday, Braven has the chance to be one of the top linebackers in 6A-2 this fall. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1171162' first='Cadriann' last='Olds'] - 2027 Defensive Lineman - Star Spencer</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Star Spencer 2027 defensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1171162' first='Cadriann' last='Olds'] was arguably the most disruptive defensive lineman during the session that we watched on Friday morning. Olds is definitely a 2027 prospect to watch moving forward. We watched film of him this offseason and he debuted as one of the top 2027 prospects in our initial rankings. He looked raw on tape but there is a lot of potential there. Fast forward to Friday's team camp and he was showcasing a variety of moves to beat opposing left tackles as he came off the edge. Whether it's pure strength or a variety of speed moves, Olds knows how to get by his opponent and wreck shop in the backfield. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='511800' first='Dace' last='Shaw'] - 2025 Running Back/Defensive Back - Shawnee</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>It's been a good month for Shawnee 2025 standout [player_tooltip player_id='511800' first='Dace' last='Shaw'] after he was the MVP from the running back position at our April PRZ-Oklahoma camp. He then turned around and was one of the top guys we watched on Friday morning and the pleasant surprise was how it came on both sides of the ball. We saw firsthand what Shaw can do on the offensive side but on Friday we got a good mix of both offense and defense. And with defense specifically, we really liked the vocal leadership he showed while on the field at the safety position. He was helping the other guys on the field and you can tell that he's taking more of a leadership role with this team. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1176238' first='Israel' last='Hammons'] - 2027 Athlete - Choctaw</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Choctaw 2027 athlete [player_tooltip player_id='1176238' first='Israel' last='Hammons'] was on our radar prior to the team camp. We had been told that Hammons was going to be a name to watch for the Yellowjackets moving forward. After watching the Yellowjackets in person on Friday, we can see why. Whether he was lining up on offense or defense, Hammons found a way to be an impactful player. It was very surprising to watch him go to work and know that he's just now finishing up his freshman season. He has a high on-field IQ and does a lot of things very well. What will his natural position be moving forward? Only time will tell. But he is absolutely a standout football player. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1262594' first='Ja'Qwon' last='Evans'] - 2026 Offensive/Defensive Lineman - Shawnee</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Similar to Shaw, 2026 offensive lineman [player_tooltip player_id='1262594' first='Ja'Qwon' last='Evans'] was another Shawnee standout, both at our April camp and on Friday morning in Choctaw. We came into the week ready to see Evans go to work on the line of scrimmage after watching him dominate at our camp last month. But just like with Shaw, we were surprised with the level of impact he also had on the defensive side of the ball. While we still think he's an offensive lineman as a prospect, we can't help but be impressed with what he was able to do on the defensive line. He's a lane clogger and almost a guaranteed double team with his size and strength. He stood out on both sides of the ball. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='402379' first='Landon' last='Gatson'] - 2026 Quarterback - Choctaw</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Choctaw 2026 quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='402379' first='Landon' last='Gatson'] was back to 100 percent and it showed throughout the morning on Friday. We've seen Gatson a couple times this offseason and each time, the arm talent that he has is off the charts. He has one of the strongest arms in the state's 2026 class and he's looking to make up for lost time after missing almost all of his sophomore season. When you watch Gatson in person, it's hard not to be impressed. In addition to the arm talent, he also checks just about every box from a physical trait standpoint. He looks like a next level quarterback and the only box left to check is him performing at a high level in the fall. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1159460' first='Serri' last='Sheridan'] - 2025 Wide Receiver - Lawton Eisenhower</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Lawton Eisenhower 2025 wide receiver [player_tooltip player_id='1159460' first='Serri' last='Sheridan'] was one of the best wide receivers that we watched on Friday morning. Sheridan was a player that we watched in person quite a bit this offseason while he played on the 7v7 circuit. He was so reliable then so it's not surprising that he was Lawton Ike's top weapon in the passing game and arguably their top playmaker on offense in general. He's not the biggest wide receiver prospect but he is so precise with everything he does and at this point, he's used to making contested catches look easy. He's a good example of a prospect that plays at such a high level that he erases any questions about his size. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
