When writing for New York or even working for a college football team I would always coin the phrase "National Tight End Shortage" and the truth is there is a "Continental Tight End Shortage" - As USports and NCAA teams look for Tight End Prospects to recruit they are becoming harder and harder to find for a few reasons. First, size - nearly all "big" tight ends get moved to tackle and many tight ends of size lack the athleticism or movement skills that coaches at the next level desire. Second, athleticism - nearly all the tight ends who check the size box will struggle to check the athleticism box. And when they do? The coaches just found themselves the defensive end they were looking for. Third, skills - the tight end is a jack-of-all-trades position. You have to be able to block guys bigger than you and get open against guys more athletic than you both jobs that common sense would deem very difficult hence why there is a shortage of recruitable prospects at the position.

I will end this intro off with letting you know that some of the highlighted prospects are very talented and that I am always on the lookout for tight ends - so if you are a tight end or know someone who plays tight end.
[player_tooltip player_id='893082' first='Lucas' last='Latendresse'] - Vanier

Latendresse is one of those hybrid TE/WR prospects and it was not until recently that he added the weight to his frame to consider him at the tight end position. He shows he is a willing blocker who has strong hands and what I thought was a solid initial punch. His best tape is when he is lined up in the slot using his size, strong hands, and ability to find open space against zone to make plays. Latendresse may not be a traditional tight end but nowadays nobody is and he fits the mold of a big playmaker on offense.

[player_tooltip player_id='892390' first='Max' last='Payne'] - Grant Park

Payne out of Grant Park could be considered an ATH because he is a two-way player who can be effective in a couple of alignments. I think Payne is a solid route runner who has solid hands and he showcases the ability to line up at the H-back spot and create separation against linebackers. Payne needs to add some weight in order to put his hand in the ground but at 6'3 has a solid frame and shows on tape he can make plays over the middle of the field.

[player_tooltip player_id='892366' first='Markus' last='Chiodo'] - St. Ignatius

Chiodo does not have film I could find from this past season but listed at 6'4 215 certainly checks off the size box for an HS tight end. A player I will track in the upcoming season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1260693' first='Robbie' last='Preston'] - Clarkson Football North

Preston not only is an intriguing WL player because of the program he plays for but he checks off the size box and has the coaching at Football North to develop as a player. Interested in seeing what Preston can do this season for Clarkson Football North
